Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Stay away from TE&Y field management jobs!

Work life balance is worse than ever and expectations are completely unrealistic. Everything about the job gets worse by the year. Constant threats of off days canceled after you are already working 65+ hours a week.

But the “managers” are college boys. They know everything there possibly is to know about railroading, because they went to college. Be governed accordingly Mr. union man. And because they have super I.Q. , ability, and skill that no union railroader could ever possibly aspire to or possess, they should be given all power and authority over every decision without question. And because they are so intelligent and efficient, they should be given additional hours to continue producing maximum return for the shareholders. Wall street managers regularly work 80-100 hours per week. Why should railroad managers be any less dedicated or productive ? The shareholders deserve exponential return on their UP investment dollar ! And for that to occur, we need maximum effort and additional hours from all the brightest and best railroaders…..the managers.

for the managers that dont understand,

they came for the brakemen, the up managers didnt say anything when the times to spot and pull got longer and customers complained bcuz the up manager wasnt a brakeman

they came for the hostlers, the up managers again didnt say anything when power wasnt pointed in the right direction or they couldnt find a good leader so the up manager didnt say anything

they came for the machinists and the electricians and the trains couldnt achieve max auth speed but the up manager wasnt in mech dept so the up manager didnt say anything

they came for the track guys, when the slow orders and derailments exploded in number the UP manager didnt say anything bcuz the up manager wasnt in maintenance of way

they came for the yardmasters, but the older switchmen knew what to do and the up manager wasnt a yardmaster so the up manager didnt say anything

they came for the clerks, all kinda of stuff went undone, got inaccurate, but the up manager wasnt a clerk so the up manager didnt say anything

then they came for the up managers and now when the railroad was falling apart the stock was dropping and the up manager doesnt have answers, the up manager doesnt know how to do anything right, the up manager wants to come on here to whine and complain.

you guys shouldve learned how to railroad so trains would haul more freight than trucks but instead you loathe-some derelicts chose how to play w/ drones and finding creative ways to entrap the working productive employees w/ supposed rules violations.

we know we know,
you all fail to realize the difference between commission and omission. Those are really big words and the online diploma mill institutions didnt give you the answers to those questions.

The only thing keeping folks at Class Ones is the retirement. Besides that UP don't offer $hit. They can take that sorry A$$ stock plan and shove it up their A$$. Medical su-ks now, union dues are sky high, it's a joke.

I have a better idea! Stay away from UP altogether! The management and the executive teams have ruined that company. Let's face it, no one wants to work there anymore. A career at the UP has become a bigger gamble than any other career I can think of. I've never seen one man take a once stable but sometimes stressful job and turn it into a most hated and risky job.

First they came for the socialists, the UP manager did not speak out bcuz the UP manager was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, again the UP manager did not speak out bcuz the UP manager was not in the trades. Then they came for religious people but the UP manager did not speak out bcuz the UP manager wasnt religious. Then they came for the UP manager and there was no one left to speak out for the UP manager.

Everything that is wrong w/ UP is bcuz of UP managers.
