Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

I was laid off today

Their reason is performance. But I know, and I have evidence, it was in retaliation for reporting harassment.

Toxic work culture. Some of the people in middle management who have been at qualcomm for long feel like they own the company.

I already consulted a lawyer and he said we have a case.

@13n I went through the exact same thing. The stress was actually ruining my health. I lost so much sleep because of it. I used to spend my whole morning commute overthinking why they were treating me like that and trying to figure out if I could even fix it. By the time I got to work, my head would be absolutely pounding.

Since I left, my health is improving but I am still suffering from lack of good sleep. I still wake up during the night because of the stress. It will take sometime to go away.

Glad you found a lawyer. I was let go after I developed a life threatening health condition, caused by the stress caused by a lousy manager. I consulted a lawyers but they said it would be tough to prove.

I did file a complaint but of course they said, "We'll coach your old manager". Good luck with that, he is still useless.

I'm now retired and my health has been improving. QCOM, on the other hand, is spiraling the drain. If you are going to fill your company with people from a culture that celebrates corruption, it's the logical outcome.

If you got laid off with severance package, you are lucky. You still can find other opportunities. Layoffs are better than staying at Q. Qualcomm is over. That's it.

@hv
is the manager still there
if so, they can still treat you like manure

upper management will side with bottom level managers before you

Of course your lawyer would say you have grounds for legal action otherwise they won't have a case and won't make money.

I was put on PIP at another company. When I said I would leave, my manager and my manager's manager spent almost 2 hours convincing me to stay. Save your dignity and leave.

Once you have been put on a PIP by your manager for ungenuine performance reasons then you are done. No matter what you do or say will save you, the decision has been made by your manager and lead that you have to go unfortunately. You can't even switch to a different department once you they put you on the PIP. Also, they will check you as unhirable so you can't return to the company in the future. I have seen this happens before. Those toxic manager and leads are on power trip.
Consider it a blessing in disguise and look for something better.

@km most of the Q business division have dummy HR ; I am fortunate that at my time I had a bold HR they retaliate back to management . CJA and WS from UK are the corrupted managers

Do not trust the POS HR at Qualcomm, they are not on your side.

@hv I tried, but HR's all over the place. I showed the ER person my proof, but she basically just bought into the lies from the manager and tech lead. The lies were so obvious too. Everything is right there in the tickets, emails, and messages. Their complete disregard of common sense and the way they kept talking in circles made it clear they were just making excuses and had already made up their minds. The whole back-and-forth was just draining and a total waste of energy.

I am some one rigorously fight against false PIP practice and defeated it.

I just simply remained calm and collected evidence against allegation and handed over to HR and quashed the allegation.

If an employee able to prove at lease 1 % lie in the allegation then false PIP practice is treated as a harassment at work. Managers use PIP as a tool to eliminate employee that they don't like.

I believe it. My biggest mistake was not documenting harassment properly. More power to you.

We’re you another poor person in toxic QPOET team?

@bs Yeah, those are my words, but the lawyer said basically the same thing with different words. I think he said something similar to "there is legal grounds for...".

@c3 I did receive that. I did not accept to be on a PIP. I knew a PIP would be a formality to document why I was fired. Line manager produced documentation that is simply a smear campaign twisting everything I say into something outrageous.

@bs I never had an issue with the job itself—it was actually pretty easy. But they controlled all the inputs and outputs, which were the requirements and sign-offs. That’s how they kept me in a chokehold. The requirements were never clear, and every time I asked a question or tried to meet with the lead to clarify things, he’d dodge me for days or even weeks just to avoid giving a straight answer. The line manager kept saying "it is your fault" even when I present evidence that the lead is dodging my questions. Line manager lacked common sense.

Did you receive prior warning your performance was lacking? Possibly a performance improvement plan? No one is laid off or terminated for cause without the decision being reviewed by attorneys representing Q. Quite often a company will settle out of court to get rid of the nuisance claim.

Maybe get a job where you can actually perform, "my lawyer says we have a case" my a-s

see if you can get a hold of some of the past employees of these managers
I am guessing some people left/escaped due to their sleaziness

yes, I was fired. Not laid off. Proper use of terminology is the least of my worries at this time.

Interesting you were laid off instead of fired if they said it was performance related.
