Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

Vacation Accrual during 90 day working period.

For those of you impacted and not aware. I confirmed with HR this morning that we are indeed accruing vacation at the full rate during the entire 90 day working period .

What happened in the layoff was each manager was given a salary budget before and then an after layoff target. The managers had to reach that after layoff salary target by cutting whomever they had to in order to make the numbers. You could choose multiple newer folks or maybe one experienced person. Each manager did things differently based on who they felt they needed left behind to operate their business after the layoff. It wasn't a headcount number reduction but a total salary reduction target.

In my team the incompetent boot lickers were kept and the top performers who were not afraid to highlight the issues caused by the incompetent hostile manager were all let go.

Thank you for explaining it to some of the folks in here. It seems they have their head in the sand when it comes to the pay gap between levels and the decision criteria used when mgt chose people to be impacted. I was a Staff tech with almost 10 years. I had a good reviews throughout my career. My compensation was targeted, this is what happens. For many of you with less years, be mindful that when you finally reach higher pay scale and skill level, GF may not appreciate the investment you’ve made into your own career. BTW, work and life outside of GF is pretty good.

Absolutely. It’s time to take stigma away. My mgt gets very upset about these conversations, but it is highly illegal for them to stop. But yes discuss amongst yourselves. I promise you someone is getting fu---d. A lot of the brand spanking new hires are making the same as more tenured coworkers even despite being a lower title and band level.

But that stigma really needs to go away. GF leadership and mgt will go out of their way to stop such conversations. Ask yourself why?

All senior techs on my team are making between 22 and 28 an hour. Principal MTs are making 29 to 34 and staff techs are making at the highest 44.

If the person that got laid off was here longer than 3 years, they'd be accruing 0.396 hours per day of vacation time.

90 days of accrued vacation pay out would be 35.64 hours of vacation. If they were paid 42 an hour with a night shift differential of 12.5% that would put their payout for accrued vacation at 1683.99 pre tax.

Very possible payout and highly likely given the context of the lay offs where we were told to present the highest paid first and low performers second.

This is why you discuss your pay with your co-workers. Some of you on here must be on the extreme low end of the payscale and not realize what your actual worth is.

You get a down vote for being a northerner and using the word "y'all". That's cultural appropriation.

Here’s to OneGF and nothing can ever get accomplished at GF. Losers fighting amongst each other. The moment y’all will see this post you will lose your head and start attacking like a raging bull.

“Sam’s Choice-Great Value Brand” 🤣 Actually this the perfect description of GlobalFoundries as a company! Love this!

Look kid, you were making eighteen and change an hour, so don't even try the cheap labor route. Sam's Club pays more than you earned here, so your "insult" kind of makes you look foolish. You come from a very large pool of unskilled labor off the streets of Saratoga County. There are thousands more like you to be had at the same rate, or cheaper when the market picks up. No shame in that. Why don't you swallow your pride and move on. B-tching about GF on a daily basis isn't going to get you anything.

GF kept you because you’re affordable labor. GF is banking on you being you being just ignorant enough to do more work now with less resources. GF knows you won’t quit and have called your bluff by delaying your raise and promotion. GF knows you won’t complain or buck the system in anyway.
You’re cheap and easy labor and you get the job done they need you to. You are essentially the equivalent of a Sam’s Choice-Great Value brand employee.

No, but GF values me enough to keep me employed. How about you? Oh, that's right...

Does GF throw few extra $ at you for trolling this site displaying GF values of hostility, stupidity and a-s licking or are you doing this for free?

March 17th would be the last paycheck of the non working period. Severance , vacation, 1 carry over week of March 13th-17th and Cobra lump sum paid out on or before March 31 Cha-Ching!! Can’t wait to officially cut ties with this miserable company.

Why would we want to go back to be forced to work around the clock anyway?? Not my first choice place to go!

Does anyone know if our severance comes March 17 or two weeks after? Relevant for when we can start collecting unemployment (unless starting a job before which would mean you can’t collect either way).

I truly don't give a rats a-s what you believe. Low performers and a small percentage of older, highly paid people were let go. They're not coming back. So this market you speak of, the one that's laying off en mass, do you honestly think someone will turn down a job when money is tight? Not everyone has the luxury to pick and choose when times are tough. I don't imagine GF will be "begging" a bunch of entry level drones, or overpaid primadonnas to come back anytime soon. You can keep hoping for a call, but it ain't coming.

GF will not really need to rehire many simply because many jobs are being offshored. GF is not expanding US operations, they are downsizing. They’ve already sold 1 of the 3 US fabs it has. The big play is in Asia, Europe…

@hsh if they don't hire back laid off folks then it means they are outsourcing their jobs. There aren't any US folks from other companies who will consider GF, everyone in industry knows GF is a horrible place to work. GF will be begging the laid off folks to come back. Your comment about low performance is ignorant!! You have no clue, many "functions" were let go, whole groups in IP area let go, entire depts, think first, type second!!

They won't be hiring anyone back. They were all let go for performance, and there's not a chance to rehire.

I personally can’t wait to tell GF to go pound sand if/when they do callbacks and rehires.

This is a sweet deal especially since GF will try to hire all those folks impacted back as soon as the economy swings and customers start ordering wafers again once inventories depleted. This benefit brought to you by the Tommy & Davy buffoon show!!!

It gets paid out after the 90days. For me it is an extra $1700 added to the $38k+ check paid in March. I couldn’t really take “vacation” anyway since I’ve just started with the new job. Just letting those who were laid off know it’s an extra ✌️
