Badge & VPN tracking

What is the minimum time requirement per day to spent in the office on VPN? The reason behind this is taking turns.

"You can easily prevent employees from using personal hotspots to access the VPN via MDM..." Yeah, sure! Will company be willing to give me a written statement that this MDM app won't be collecting any personal information stored on my smartphone? I highly doubt that..

The reason for RTO is in person interaction. I am hardly ever on my laptop in the office, so why questions about tracking?

yes ... the doors (not the badge tech) tracker where you are at, Same as what room, cafe, java machine, etc. Big brother on steroids. Make sure you badge in @ 8, stray all day online, and badge out out 6. Or whatever time zone you are in. Also...forgot... try and stay on MS Teams as much as possible even though it may not be part of your day. You do that and youll have leverage.

You can easily prevent employees from using personal hotspots to access the VPN via an MDM (Mobile Device Management) app that’s used to monitor the phone's location. Deny any access to company VPN from a hotspot unless you use the MDM app for access. If you want to hotspot in, require the MDM app.

The MDM app can detect if the phone’s GPS location is spoofed or if the device is compromised (rooted or jailbroken), and it can block VPN access if issues found.

"what good does using a hotspot to VPN in while in the office do? Might as well use the corporate network, so if they are tracking they see you are in the office. Being on VPN would equate to not being in the office, and defeats the purpose "

If you use vpn 100% of the time (both in office via hotspot and remote) and only have to badge in (as is the case on my site) then they cannot rely on the data collected with regards to your laptop network connection to determine when you are on-site or off-site. They would have to use other methods not as easy to bulk report on.

"You can't use the VPN onsite. Also, this has only been a rumor and nothing notable has come from it. I know lots of people who have coffee badged the whole time and they are still here." For sure you can, just connect to your mobile phone hotspot and then use VPN. Works from the office just fine.
