Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Will coming massive layoffs make any difference?

Is there a strategy behind it? Anything that will make life better for those who remain? Any plans that will dig out Dell from the hole? Layoffs just for the sake of layoffs are disheartening.

Dell is not getting sold, what a ridiculous comment

This is all pretty accurate. They don’t care about morale, that’s become shockingly obvious in the last 2-3 years. The only thing they are really benefitting from is a terrible job market right now, otherwise even more top talent would have already been out the door. I don’t know a single person who wouldn’t take a lateral pay move to another company with some actual job security. Many used to worry heavily about layoffs, now many are hoping to just hold on until they get severance.

I would be shocked if this company is NOT sold, or folds in the next 3 years. Hence the pump and dump on the stock price over and over using layoffs, and saying AI over and over till the cows come home, all while making ZERO industry advancements in AI itself. It seems it’s all to make Dell seem shiny so someone will buy it and MD can yacht off into the sunset. That’s the impression that I get.

Most accurate prediction I have heard is that upcoming layoffs will be between 0% and 100%

We can't worry about this because it is beyond our control. We all have equal chances of getting hit as Dell is a true equal opportunity employer. Working harder won't save our jobs at this point.

The su----e happened late last year in the Parking Lot at Round Rock. Emails were sent to people in the local offices. I believe this person was laid off and couldn't find a new job.

No, bc past layoffs haven't made anything else better expect the margins We'll be expected to pick up the workload without additional compensation or recognition and be grateful because we could be next if we complain or seek fair and equitable comp

It’s 30%. Whoever else is telling you less is full of it or HR. Or drank the Dell cool and has no life outside Dell.

Since Dell acquired EMC, by Aug, MD will have taken an approx 150,000 person biz and got it under 100,000. Got rid of RSA, Boomi, literally ki-led once proud VMW by selling it off. Lost the innovation edge in storage...the profit center, now surpassed by Pure, VAST, even NetApp + other ankle biters. vxRail is gone/going. Even PowerFlex depends on some VMW pieces...how many times will Dell partner with Nutanix?? Dell is banking on AI by selling a commodity server that has lots of GPUs in it - by the way, there are 3-4 other large competitors that can do the same thing. The market has noticed that profitability will continue to be a problem going forward. MD also thinks AI will replace sales people, business processes, supply chain etc. Some of it might, but recent articles on the morale of Dell are very telling. Dell has also become a place where they may never really ever hire outside talent again...ever. The only people getting jobs here are college kids, who they hope will stick around for a few years, as soon as they command more $ - out the door they go. great job MD...clap......clap....clap. Pretty sad because this whole mess was calculated and custom designed. It is back to the laptop and server biz.

Other than more broken morale, no.

Frankly, I'm surprised layoffs are still happening even after the sui**de incident earlier this year. But I may just have high expectations from Dell. Silly me, that's just part of the bottom line. We'll pretend it never happened.

@@bnl+1tzF3PAg - Job posting have zero relation to any pending layoffs. Just because a job is posted doesn't mean anyone can fill it, nor does it imply that other people aren't about to lose their jobs ya dope.
