Thread regarding Optum layoffs

AW Fireside Chat

Instead of doing any self reflection AW doubled down on not changing a single thing about the company and even said it’s already great for providers and members.

Honestly, this company couldn’t care less about its employees as they are on the receiving end of retaliation against poor company practices. I’m sorry but you don’t become the 4th largest company in the US without sc--wing people over. You don’t make billions in profits without denying more claims than their competition.

If a grocery store was in the top 5 companies I think everyone would be suspicious about food prices.

Things need to change.

Yea someone above loves to drink kool aid. Everything this man does is damage control so they keep sc--wing the masses, his ability to lead. It doesn’t take much leadership to do the wrong thing. Leadership and courage is standing up to a bunch of greedy board members etc and doing the right thing which is to be honest and pay people bills. Educate the masses on how to navigate getting care. Not just denying everything cause you are more interested in your earning calls and getting more rich investors .

Do your research on Andrew Witty’s reputation and ventures. This speaks volumes to who he is perceived to be. What does the organization employees think of his leadership? How do employees view an American Company being run by a person who doesn’t live in this country? All things to ponder. Look up Optum Pharmacy, United Healthcare reviews, How can a company with low reviews make record profits? Is it a company trying to dominate the space so to force all citizens under universal care?

His Fireside chats are cr-p. I remember him talking about work/life balance and how we all should.do like him, ride our Pelatons more. Talk about being out of touch.

@hid+1vRoGDjR That is the bare minimum as a leader. There is nothing courageous about talking to your own employees. Yes, I think it is better than staying silent but it is literally the bare minimum. From a director perspective we were given no advice immediately following the events and for a lot of us we simply did what a normal human being should do and talk to our teams giving EAP resources to them. This was done not by the direction of upper leadership but by individuals.

This company is the worst I have worked for in almost every way. I care so much about the company mission of helping real people live healthier liver and making the system work for all but the company obviously does not and that is why I am frustrated continually standing by while they make decisions that are ultimately bad for their employees and members.

The biggest cynics are usually idealist that were continually let down.

Lives in a billion dollar bubble … why change. Sued, hacked, death … nothing will penetrate until forced to by a bigger bubble.

To me it showed real courage and ability to lead. From someone who has had to deal with mu---r in the workplace and the enormous difficulty in supporting all those left with a huge void, he did the right thing and spoke to us. I would thank AW for doing this fireside chat. Sure I would like more from my organization, but as for speaking from the heart and being supportive I commend him. Now start with the down votes.

What I heard was the way we can honor his legacy is to get back to work….and don’t speak to the press.
