Yea! We are number 2!

Ignore the leaders behind the curtain.

Being classified as a visionary and bragging about it is like saying you are a Division II football team and claiming you are competing with Alabama for the national title. Yes, you could win but more likely, you are getting your doors blown out by the end of the first quarter.

The Visionary category is not #2. It simply means that you:

  1. don’t have a lot of market presence /share
  1. customers don’t particularly care for you as compared to leaders and challengers with much higher market share and levels of customer love
  1. Gartner thinks you have future potential to possibly be a player — you are potentially making the right moves from a product perspective, but you’re a long way off from being a “player” in the market.

Being a visionary is not really something to brag about. The best thing that can be said is that Gartner doesn’t consider you to be a “niche player” (ie a laggard).

The fact that anybody at Oracle is even celebrating this or thinks it’s a good thing is just further evidence that Oracle is grasping at straws.

BI visionary?

Legacy customers are dropping us. New custmers are afraid of us. Our cloud traction is dismal.

Gardner covers a lot of Functional area. Which one are you talking about? By being number 2 do you mean second in the leader’s quadrant, or just being visionary?
