Thread regarding NetApp layoffs

individual lawyers or class action for stealing PTO?

Are people getting their own lawyers or is there an underground conversation at the sites happening where folks are grouping together with one law firm?

I hope that someone is brave enough to pursue this for the rest of us. Chatgpt says that it is illegal. Guessing that NetApp's army of lawyers have looked at every angle and figured the money the company can put in its coffers is worth the risk of sc--wing its tenured employees. Very disappointing and demotivating.

I just don't care anymore. I'll get my PTO back in other ways. Ja--ing up work estimates and doing nothing all week.

@dh Having motivated employees would be good for NetApp. Maybe the HR folks reading this can tell the board.

Not for sale. We aren’t worth an acquisition at our market cap. Management is pursuing a policy of reducing cost while maintaining existing revenue. It’s a strategy to boost short term profits (next few years) at the expense of innovation. Eventually pure storage will overtake us and we do not plan to stop it.

Reviewing all that's going on in the last few years, Netapp management has made a concerted effort to clean up the balance sheet. Does anyone else think Netapp is being configured for sale?

@f3 lol, you work for hr? cause you certainly do not understand what is being taken from the tenured employees without compensation. Ask yourself why cisco paid out the pto prior to switching. header is right, who is getting the lawyer?

Yes you are. Banked PTO loses all value after Oct 17.

@he the internal email stated there was no expiration on your current PTO............. unless im stupid doesnt that tell you that if you take the PTO you will still be paid for it???? you keep your pto, you use your pto, you are paid your pto. Until you run out, you wont switch to FTO. What is the big deal if there is no expiration date on when you HAVE to use them by????

@h8 Since when did Cesar stop taking selfies and start posting on this site?

Banked PTO is WORTHLESS as soon as FTO kicks in. Sure...you burn through your PTO when FTO kicks in but if someone else doesn't have PTO then they get to use FTO. It's like Socialism for time-off.

You are being paid out regardless. You use the PTO, you don’t work and you still receive a check. There is not deadline to use this by October or whenever the switch to FTO is. I don’t know why people are complaining. You keep your PTO you’re still being paid if you get laid off you’ll still be paid.

In the 8 weeks (not counting this week) between now and beginning of FTO policy, everyone with a PTO balance should try to use up ALL the time they have in their bank. If you have 3 weeks, take it all at once. If you have more than 4 weeks, take 3 weeks, come back a week and then take the remaining balance.

While this sounds silly, I'm sure more than one manager will attempt to block this, especially with Insight right around the corner. So many PTOs at once will get management to pay attention. I'm sure many managers will try to block this. That's the ammunition you need to demand a payout.

Once FTO policy starts, FTO and PTO are the same, so any remaining balance is worthless.

Third time going through this, second exactly this way, happened to the wife as well. Vacation and sick time shenanigans have been a constant story of my almost 30 years of tech work. This seems to be the way it's typically done. You don't technically lose your accrued PTO, it just gets used first. If you get cut, you get your remainder. If you take a week off it comes from the bank first, which is how it's always worked. Now, the bank just doesn't refill. Neither my wife or myself were paid out for banked vacation any time, but we roll over very little vacation. My first job with IBM in the 90s taught me use whatever they give you, they will try to take it back.

They’re not stealing anything. You can use it, there’s no expiration date on it. You just have to use it before switching to FTO. So far there’s no deadline on when that is.

@dh moving to FTO is not bad. But most companies are paying for any existing PTO PRIOR to moving employees to FYO. What’s bad is for all those who had vacation banked, they have to forfeit it all. In essence, the company is stealing any PTO you may have had…. Having existing accrued PTO has zero value now.

Moving to FTO is good for NetApp.
Other tech companies are doing the same thing.
