Looks like the company’s effort to union bust backfired again. Preying on all the new construction guys and new techs might have worked in NC, but failed horribly in FL. Over 80% of votes were to keep the union. JS is now 0-2 in his efforts!

Unions are a scam. Just a shield that people hide behind to be lazy and not perform a job. That’s it. Most of the union workers throw it around like it’s an absolute power or flex. Oh you can’t tell me how to my job you employ me to do because I’m in the union. Kick the union out!
@252 I am glad they got a short term raise, but in our area the $5 raise and the sh---y non bargaining health care would be less money for alot of us.
The non union guys will probably never get another raise after this anyway. It is a just an instant gratification short term benefit that they may end up regretting down the road.
I can say for 100% fact that non-union cst’s top out was 4-5 dollars per hour more than the union areas in NC. Which is part of the reason they voted it out.
@1z8 NON*
Are you just going off of what your local director says when it comes to you none union guys making way more or do you know that as a fact? Because ive spoken to multiple union presidents across the company and have yet to find 1 none union market that makes more than them.
@h8 oh, you mean the guys that never paid a dime of dues but want protected from a layoff…
@f8 yu must be new
@hb That’s unrealistic. The same can be said for every single person that works in corporate also, you included.
Techs should get paid per job and not salary or hourly. Then they could actually do work and not no-show customers or cancel orders from their truck. Say they were onsite with a customer when the customer said no they were not. Then their own manager checked the gps on the trucks and nope was never there. We would get more installs done and customers on to better networks. But instead just some hillbilly friend not doing the job they are paid to do.
@gy Yea.. no. The area I’m in has never been union since the beginning & that has never been brought up. Every time we have an opening, techs from the nearby union areas transfer to us.
Without the union, the company will try to go to something like a 45-50 hr salary plus time and a half after,say, after 45. That way they can control the actual hours worked by each tech during any given week and end up never paying overtime, even on weekends. It’s coming to a unionless shop near you!!
Techs in non union areas also get paid Sunday premium , which is time & a half I believe. From talking to Florida techs personally, the work output is the same across the board. You pay union dues & get nothing extra & get paid less. It’s nearly impossible to get fired as a tech. You have to really sc--w up or just be a complete mo--n to get fired. But good for you, you guys kept the union that has 0 leverage. We don’t live in the 80s anymore.
T-mobile will bring everybody together and make this one big magenta wearing happy family again
....with the support of HR. Anne in HR at that time.
Unions are antiquated. They just take your money. You just have to document more, I've term'd plenty of union employees. But you do you, keep that false sense of "protection" and they'll keep cashing your checks.
Our union is a joke. Hopefully they try that in Iowa!
@ad Union shops they cant walk all over you, like they can at Non union. Union shops still have double time on Sundays. (not all, but a few do)
@ad one thing the union gets is a written schedule. Changes have to be made 2 weeks in advance. Anything outside that written schedule is automatically time and a half, regardless of whether they have 40 hours or not.
Maintenance window hours are typically time and a half for this reason. They can't plan that far in advance to change the schedule. Whereas my manager expects us to come in late to avoid paying overtime.
Who cares about job protection at this company, I mean really. Employees are quitting left & right.
What is the pros of the union? Non union areas make a lot more. Sure the union will stand up for you, but it’s nearly impossible to get fired as a tech. I just don’t see the point in the union.
