Thread regarding Western Digital Corp. layoffs

Anyone knows that they're not getting raises for sure?

I heard that some people have been notified about their raises. The increase is supposed to show up in April and not everyone will get it. I haven't gotten mine yet. Does anyone here know their teammates got raised but you didn't?

@twdw+1rvLhecv it's a mature industry filled with a lot of boomers who survived the merger and consolidation years. Some act as if they're an engineering gift to the world because they because they possess a niche skill or were part of a market changing product and ride the tail of that success. Others aren't sure where they could go with their skills, so they stay because they know their place and find in it some security.

I left WD 5 years ago. Never looked back. Typically I get 5% raises and 10K bonus this year. Why do people stick around at a job they hate? Best time to get a new job is when you are employed.

check-ins, focal cycle, just bring performance reviews so mgrs have to actually gauge what their employees contribute

CB n her Team’s Focal cycle is a flop for majority of the employees. Her incompetent cronies were handed down promotions to give a shaft to the rest!! Everyone will get shafted again when STI rolls around.

The average was 3% per team. If you got above that it means someone on team got below that.

@fbmh+1rvLhecv manager receives a budget which they typically distribute using their opinion of an employee's contribution, but rarely enough budget that all get raises

@gtsm+1rvLhecv meritocracy is the myth and talent retention exists, just depends on the org

@gvhe+1rvLhecv historically the Flash BU has had a different comp structure and the company could not or would not address it, It's one of the fallacies behind 'we' and 'do it together,' and yet recently HDD carried the load while we had negative margins

Promotions and raises to folks that kissed the right A$$!! Retaining key talent is a myth!!

Post ID: @gtsm+1rvLhecv

@gstz+1rvLhecv is this a surprise? Retaining key talent in most orgs trumps the attrition risk, so they are probably not too concerned whether you stay or leave.

It’s a f%^* joke!! $0 raise after 2 years of no raise and no STI. Pick a few white guys on the team and give them large promotions and sc--w 80% of the team. CB’s “focal review” is a disaster and a failure. Attrition in bound. Can’t wait for this looser PSLT to be out the door!!

@fbmh+1rvLhecv my manager keeps it impersonal by typically sending an email with a few words and the letter attached, so if there's no letter will assume no increase

Your manager was suppose to tell you by now, they have the focal letters available to distribute. If they haven’t contacted you, your manager su-ks or you probably didn’t get an increase. How are the increases even decided? Manager picks their few favorites with the limited budget they have?

At least next downturn is not coming soon. Until then enjoy the ACR and start preparations to jump ship

all it's doing is raising cost, so next downturn more layoff just like this one

@8uvh+1rvLhecv perhaps HDD will consider this because little effort anymore on people mgmt. and upper mgmt. makes the decisions, so might as well be an IC

Well in Flash FW org a whole bunch of middle managers got removed today and turned into IC to promote efficiency and transparency. Lets see what happens now.,.....

@7uhs+1rvLhecv wasn't this way years ago, but times change and there's little incentive now for moving into a mgmt. track and slow progress in the technical track

Managers at WD are in name only. They still have to go to their parents to ask for permission to do anything. Senior Directors are pretty much where all the decisions happen... everything below is honorary titles and barely any people management. Most don't even know latest HR plans and the organization leaders fail to communicate downward.

I heard the letter will out on Mar 26. The planning system is not officially closed yet, although many managers had finalized it.

lol @6exh+1rvLhecv...As @6yiv+1rvLhecv mentioned that we will see the change in next pay check. I am just clarifying that it will be in the first paycheck in April.

@6yiv+1rvLhecv are you getting your news from the dumpster? Managers are meant to tell you if you are getting raise my March 26th. The change takes into effect from the first paycheck in April. It's been clearly mentioned in AHM

its not the next paycheck (i.e. Mar 29th), it will be the pay check on April 12th is when we see the pay increase (if we get the raise). Correct me if I am wrong.

The next paycheck is supposed to be the first one that'll reflect the adjustment if you got it. So managers have two weeks to inform you. My guess is if you haven't been told about it by know, you didn't get the raise.
