I lost my job a few months ago and landing a new role is taking way longer than I imagined. I assumed that being a solid software engineer would make it easy, especially with all the startup openings. It’s been stressful watching weeks slip by without any offers.

Who is this parasitic leader in US? One who contributes no value, yet thrives by feeding off his remote teams work ?
Many non-american directors and VPs in US are surviving by feeding on work of their remote teams. They have no technical, no planning, and no managerial ability. They cannot contribute to strategy and not set direction for the team.
Theiremote team wastes time explaining work to him so he can brief higher-ups, but there poor grasp and inaccurate updates create confusion and more effort. Out of insecurity, they misrepresent successes as their own foresight, blame failures on remote leads, and withhold information from remote leads to keep them from becoming threats. They even avoid involving remote leads in meetings with other american peers and managers, ensuring they are cut off from visibility and credit. Careers in remote teams depend on their patronage, not merit; loyalists are rewarded, independent voices punished. Their insecurity, politics, and favoritism fracture the team and poison the culture.
Have you come across such leaders ??
I am multiracial, but I will say that many of the Indian engineers I've worked with at Q are among some of the worst I've ever had to work with. They are really really good at making slides and talking a lot while saying nothing of value.
Contrasting that with other geographical regions, the Korean, French, Dutch, Eastern European and Japanese engineers are light years ahead of most other engineers, specially the Indians. Even the Chinese engineers are superior. I honestly think the Indians are just trained in school how to interview and use AI to do work for them.
I'm really not trying to be xenophobic - just trying to be honest. The Indian managers at Q and my prior company are of a much higher quality, though, as they came over 15-30 years ago, when quality was prioritized. But 90% of the engineers I've met at the Staff level or lower are only good at slides and excessive talking and a-s-kissing.
@ng: You criticize the poster for being xenophobic, yet in the very same post you make a statement like "Qualified American my a-s." That sir/ma'am is also xenophobic!
A bit of the pot calling the kettle black....
Just sayin'
There is no racism here, just common sense. Haven't you seen that Indian managers have most/all their teams from India? Same thing goes for Chinese managers. Just check organization charts on teams. And we all know that these people are not smart, just look at the products they make, full of bugs and problems. Q is getting Indianzed, following Intel path. I'm black from Africa, and I will never work under an Indian/Chinese manager!
I saw with my own eyes more than one Indian manager staying 10+ years with embarrassing track records of leading teams. They are good at pleasing their own managers by taking credits for the team work at calculated times like TR and MWC to ensure that they are the last ones to be let go. Very selfish behavior that hurts team spirit and productivity, but it is the optimal strategy because they simply cannot fulfill the job requirements and cannot deliver.
@mn that’s BS xenophobia. If you can prove it go ahead and do so. Most in Qualcomm are pretty diverse even among Indians. Just because they know more Indians who are qualified doesn’t mean it’s some BS about caste you made up.
Qualified American my a-s. Qualcomm or any other American company would not have a tenth of high IQ level workers.
@jv it’s actually not racism if it’s reality. The truth is that Q passes o we qualified Americans every day. Or pushes them out. Hiring managers are former H1Bs that hire from their caste and work new, less qualified H1Bs to the bone. And eventually toss them out.
But new American grads and old timers are done in this industry.
@gt what a disgusting person. Trying to push racism into everything.
Are you Indian and not American? If so, you’ll land a job through nepotism or caste-ism. Otherwise, go back to school to learn to be a plumber because Americans no li get get hired at American tech companies.
Use a recruiter/headhunter. There are several good ones on LinkedIn. Good luck.
Hang in there. Your LinkedIn profile and tailored resumes are crucial for securing interviews. The LHH materials are useful for achieving that. The LHH support groups are optional. I found that not very helpful.
