Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

I’m committed

I’m committed, committed to giving all of me despite the circumstances. The decisions made whether good or bad will not cause me to complain but focus on what I can do to be a better employee.

My parents NOT Oxy instilled this in me! In the end if I lose my job, I hang my head high for NOT becoming sour over something that was far above my pay grade.

I’m not a VP, Director or Manager. What I am is an employee who will continue to take pride in my work ethic despite what lays before me. True leadership is setting the example even if you are not in a leadership role!

Remain faithful to yourself, to your Own Moral code, be the example not the complainer.

"Would I ever leave this company? Look, I'm all about loyalty. In fact, I feel like part of what I'm being paid for here is my loyalty. But if there were somewhere else that valued loyalty more highly, I'm going wherever they value loyalty the most."

All of you who want to appear positive, rosy picture, blue skies about Oxy. Please use Yammer and pad each other on the back. You may be all members of Punkpetro I see. If you want to be realistic, this is the right venue.

Just remember not every location is run in the same manner. Different locations have different circumstances. Quit telling people to leave if you don’t work with them or do their job. I wasn’t upset about the pay cut. I came to work doing my best everyday. Then everything changed and life has been miserable. Some people have better management than others. Don’t be so quick to judge people who are upset.

Amen OP, love your attitide and I back you 100%. I am happy to have a job and I wake up every morning thanking that. Too much negativity in this forum, if you are unhappy by all means quit and go to work to you ideal company.

I will do my best, if they lay me off or if we go bankrupt I will be proud that I did my best, and if we all do then we have a chance.

Stockholm? Stick your head out of the hole, all companies are laying off, Shell did a big cleanout, be happy with what you have and stop trying to push people down to your level.

Thanks OP, keep it up and don't listen to these guys that will soon be out of the door and I really hope that. I am not HR. manager, director or anything. just a simple employee making a living and doing my best.

OP I bet you don't say that when you are doing 6 jobs for 70% of the pay of one. You must not really being doing anything sitting at home. If you need work post your email and ill CC you in on some spreadsheets to fill out for management but wait we have a program that can make these spreadsheets but no one know how to use them except individual contributors so just keep filling in the spreadsheets.

This is what the argument this person is making sounds like to me:

"Ahh, I am the brave soldier signed up to defend my little country (Not the USA, people)! Ahoy! Who dares sink my battleship! What is that! A nuclear submarine you say! Arm thy six shooters and rifles! Soldiers ... aim, shoot ... for today we shall die with our heads up high.

In the meantime, the smart ones are getting on the lifeboat and saying, "see ya captain, I mean really, a nuclear submarine".

Just sayin...

Also OP: posting on the layoff.com during work hours

This guy is delusional.

@gso+15h9SJiP Exactly. Moral victories are meaningless if they drag you down and torpedo your career.

Don't be a pawn following VH into the slaughter. Remember, the EC doesn't give a damn about you and they will escape unscathed with their golden parachutes.

You must really enjoy getting st on. I certainly do no enjoy being treated like cp. I have never been treated so badly. 90% of my issues revolves around poor managers. This situation could be more manageable with competent leadership.

I admire your principals but you are not the captain of this sinking ship. Save yourself and live to fight another day somewhere else that values you. Don’t waste your time with the criminals. VH should be in jail for what she has done

I am the same as you when it comes to doing a good job, and taking pride in it. My manager is great and I will always strive to do well for him. Where I differ is that the company has a whole is not stable, and has basically put a lot on their employees. Sure times are tough and we have lost many co-workers, but those of us left should not be getting 30% less than those that have gone. That has nothing to do with my work being good or bad, but it will have everything to do when things pick up and I can leave. Oxy has shown their true colors on a lot of things recently and in my opinion the employee is getting the short end of the stick for our executive's decisions. It has just been a snowball headed for hell the last year, and very little has been positive. Sure the oil prices got low, but only a few weeks after the bottom fell out we are almost at 37.00 a barrel. I think our executives jumped the gun on our salary reductions and they have really hurt their reputation in the industry. I applaud you on keeping your work ethic going and hopefully many of us are doing the same. But I am afraid when times get better we are going to see the doors revolving pretty fast as people head out the door. There is no way the handling of all of this will buy any loyalty. Many are using Oxy for a paycheck and benefits now but just waiting for the day to leave. This has been a hell of a few months, but I would like my executives to stay positive and guide us through this, but we rarely hear from them, and when we do it is just to justify their poor performance. This is not just about Covid and low oil prices, but more about those two things and poor planning and forecasting. They have burned any culture the company had for very short-term relief. If we were that close to burning down they should of never put us in this situation.
