Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Windows PC + GSuite : Perfect match LMAO

You might find this a bit trivial, but as everything has its importance... Do people at BC use Apple Mac ? Or will we have to deal with Windows PCs in addition to GSuite? For me, it's already a good reason to consider leaving :p

How can we remain positive towards a company that treats people from the acquired company this way? This system of grouping people from 1 to 3, it's entirely inhumane, it created widespread panic from the moment it was announced...

Is this really your biggest problem, to decide if you want to work somewhere? You should be earning enough to buy a private phone and put the corporate simcard into it, if you don’t like the model. There is no reimbursement for private stuff.

You will be never happy working at Broadcom if you keep comparing everything. If you land here, get over it, focus on technology and the positive, there is plenty of it.
I have worked for VMware before, and I enjoy working here more. No politics, no water carrier managers, empty epic slogans,…. just tech. Yes, you don’t get the good compensation for just sitting around, everyone needs to contribute. Toxic employees stick out very quickly. Simple processes, but they need to be followed, if you are a primaballerina that needs special treatment and knows everything better than your boss or peers, you will hate it. You better go somewhere else.

@gqs+1paFf0Rv are you allowed to use your personal phone and get reimbursements or do you have to use a separate corporate phone?

Lot of bull+++t written here. Yes we have google suite, but also msoffice if necessary, for Gmail you can sync it with locally installed outlook, or iOS mail app if you want, but only few nuts do it, why would you do that? You will get used to Gmail in one week, works just fine. We do most calls in webex but everyone has also access to zoom, folks just do not use it. We use slack massively, only few use google chat. You can choose windows or Mac, same for iPhone or android. You will be fine.

Google workspace is already used inside VMware and as someone who had it plus MS Orifice I can see that Google is hands down the better system and I hate having to use the legacy MS cr-p.

Gmail is also a pleasure compared to Outlook.

Not sure how they can get rid of slack unless they migrate all the content across. Teams won't be missed.

OK

so. BRCM is using Macs and they will allow to continue to work with your current Mac ( if you get proposal ofc )

  • WS1 -> Okta SSO
  • Outlook -> GMail ( autoforward for 12 months )
  • slack/teams -> google chat ( 3-6 months transition )
  • MS O365 -> Google Workspace
  • onedrive -> box
  • zoom -> not defined, probable google
  • PC security -> ClearPass OnGuard
  • VPN -> GlobalProtect

Macs are for people who do not ever need to do any work.

Do we know what set of communication tools and policies they use at Broadcom?

  • What's the email/calendar, is it Exchange?
  • Do they allow fetching those with external clients, e.g. Apple Mail/Calendar?
  • Do they allow for non-managed devices to fetch those, e.g. your own iPhone/Android? Is iOS Mail integration enabled or only Outlook (God forbid it's the f*g gBoxer!)
  • Is Slack used?
  • What's the meeting solution, Zoom, Teams, Google whatever?
  • What's their VPN solution? Can I connect from an unmanaged computer?
  • Do they use any RSA token app? Do I have to manually copy/paste the code like with Workspace One, or it's integrated, so I can only use fingerprint/faceID?
  • What's their version control and code review system? GitLab, GitHub?
  • If they don't provide company Mac computers, are we allowed to use our own? Does it have to be managed?
  • Do they put a lot of bloatware on managed computers as we do?

If that's a good enough reason to consider leaving, please allow me to hold the door open for you.
