Thread regarding PayPal layoffs

PayPal Layoff Risk for New Hires?

Hi all,

I recently received an offer from PayPal. However, I’ve been seeing a lot of concerns on Blind about potential layoffs, especially with the recent CEO change and stock price drops.

Does anyone know how PayPal typically handles layoffs with very recent hires? Are new hires usually affected in restructuring rounds?

Also, if layoffs were to happen, how soon will be?

Any insights from current or former employees would be really helpful. Thanks!

A colleague that I know with an incredible CV and very smart, was hired and 3 months later the team was moved to Bangalore and he was laid off, with a minimal redundancy, if anything. So, it is possible. I'd say, it depends on the job, but there are still lay offs, as recent as 2 weeks ago.

No-one can really say for sure how at risk you are of being laid off but what i can tell you is that the culture at PayPal isn't what it used to be. They used to be a company that valued their employees and made an effort to show that. It was a really great company to be a part of. Now that the share price has been falling for years, departments have been feeling the pressure. They're doing more work with less people. They recently removed the 4 week sabbatical benefit we received every 5 years. I think it will probably get worse under the new CEO. He was known for aggressively cutting costs at HP which also seems to have a poor culture. Maybe check out Glassdoor and compare reviews of PayPal and this other company you have an offer from. Being happy where you work is worth taking a pay cut for in my opinion. Good luck.

Unless you have a better offer i would say just take the job, take the pay check, learn whatever you can and if you're really concerned about layoffs, keep looking for something in the meantime. Hope it works out for you.

@gf San Jose is where many orgs have their base of operations.
There are still interviews ongoing.
So no signs at the moment that SJ is on the chopping block

Talk to the hiring manager.
