Macy's in New Jersey

Why do New Jersey full line Macy's always seem to avoid the chopping block? This has been the case since 2017. It is the market the stores are in?

@bd - there isn't a Northeast Region any longer, it's East. Other two are Central and West.

Hamilton and Livingston I agree with as those malls are extremely slow and surprised they are both still open. Monmouth is being revamped as far as the shopping center becoming mixed use so they might have a chance to remain open. There will be a Whole Foods next door to it so should help bring in traffic. Brunswick might get a reprieve until early 2027 as I heard they have an agreement with the mall to stay open as a Clearance Center for now.

@OP hi! i worked for Macy’s for just shy of seven years and yes, NJ can avoid a lot of the cutting based on the previous poster. however, macy’s furniture in paramus is closing because it’s a dead zone and livingston mall for sure this year. brunswick closed as a full line and was converted to a clearance center. Woodbridge is a tbd based on being a mile shy from Menlo mall. decisions are being made, it’s a matter of ROI and timing.

New Jersey is the area I service as a vendor. This area gets very busy and is a big part of the Northeast Region. District VP lives in NJ also. More people per square mile than any other state and the high number of malls and retail shopping keep it going. Some locations do better than others of course, NJ sites are only considered for closing if they are doing really bad.
