Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Glide Path to the Trash Bin

UnitedHealth Group managed to squeeze $12B in pure profit out of the healthcare system last year solely through value extraction. Like Sears, Circuit City, and other notable companies that found themselves in the trash bin of history, they are relying on their size to keep employers, providers, and members with them. At a time when healthcare costs are skyrocketing, they could be creating value in the healthcare system and — gasp! — earning some profit for themselves. Instead, they push out anyone who wants to innovate or question the dirty tactics and legally dubious actions. Hemsley was supposed to make it better. Instead, he’s made the company culture worse and is putting short term gain above not only UnitedHealth Group’s interests, but the already strained healthcare system.

Know this, there is an avoidable trajectory here; but persist down this road and some startup will eat your lunch just like Amazon — a nobody at the time — did to Sears and Circuit City. Change course before it’s too late. Hire some technology people that actually know technology. Hire ethical business leaders that will follow the law. UnitedHealth Group could be the reason the healthcare system gets better or the reason it crashed. Choose wisely.

@n6 anything to derail the conv. We all know what happened to Brian, no one is disputing that. He's not here anymore yet more evil is continuing: more outsourcing, more AI initiatives, threats to employees, former employees and providers who speak up. Clearly Brian wasn't the cause of it, especially considering he only held that role for 2 years. Things need to change. Not sure whether that can or will happen. They'd rather have people like you come here to cause drama by latching on to something one person said. This company is a problem, that's a universal and shared thought among most!

@n6 Defending UHG is trash. If they are treating you so well and you are happy, why are you here? What about the post is itching your behind? HERE YOU GO!

STEVE makes 30mill a year, so did DAVE! Both have owned the most stocks here for decades! Andrew made 10mill a year for 5 years, Brian 2mill for two years. STEVE is back as CEO again.

THIS IS THE MAIN POINT. Now GO AWAY!!!!

@a6 He was always like that! The very first ceo was decent but DW and SH have always been this way, also they’ve each made the most during their tenures. 30mill a year! And people are worried about Brian who made 2mill a year for two years before he passed away and Andrew 10mill annually for less than 5 years. These are all high walrus’s but DW and SH are the absolute worst!

Hire some ethical people that know what they’re doing? Ha, those ethical people who push back are gaslit until they have mental breakdowns and or quit!

I think that's maybe the most shocking thing about having been around for the CEO's first go-round: seeing how he went from a good, thoughtful leader to a destructive, greedy recluse.

He was the one who instituted the original culture program, and he used to drive for quality. He had end of week reviews of important project and products that VPs called "colonoscopies." He was thorough and smart.

Now I see dum--ss submarine animations on an endless hype cycle.

It's like he got body snatched by sentient wallstreetbets post.

@OP My friend I think this will happen much sooner than they think. I’m sure they are panicking now. So many signs, so much mess they created that’s impossible to clean up. Their choices brought them where they are now: he-l! 😆
