Very large impact to Optum Growth was planned for July 29 but could be delayed due to last minute changes to the restructured team

@f1 you are higher on the totem pole than me. Lower level supervisors don't know until just before it happens.

@c1 It is terrible. I knew my team members for weeks. One person deserved it and I couldn't wait, the other I spoke to on personal time, cell to cell, and gave a heads up so they knew and had time to prepare themselves and work on posting out. I helped them find a spot they landed in a week after they were RIF'd

@ck 29's rarely have reports

@ey That's not true. I'm the immediate supervisor of a team (GL30) and I knew the members of my team (a GL28 and a GL29) getting RIF'd many weeks prior

@ek from experience the immediate supervisor is the last person notified before the employee themselves is notified.

@c1 Based on past posts here, a RIFed employee’s immediate supervisor is told the morning of the RIF. That likely is the case only for people at the bottom of the Org Chart. Idk what the experience was for those higher up on Org Chart.

@ce I’ll be curious to see how it works out in tech. There’s are roles designed to be ICs, like architecture/principal/sr principal engineers

29s and 30s without directs need to be prepared.

If names were submitted weeks ago, who already knows? How do they decide? If supervisors already know, do they act weird? I feel like my supervisor is avoiding me…. Like maybe she’s uncomfortable about what’s to come!

I'm a little concerned about the critical thinking skills of the rank and file around here. Leaders, sure, but that's more a sociopathic lack of empathy, but people on here?

Yes, any formal layoff in July was in the works before BBB. That said, SLT/ELT knew it was coming.

What seems difficult for people to understand is that RTO IS A SOFT LAYOFF. Doesn't need to be planned, can be implemented on a whim like the two weeks MN/DC got. Forcing people back to the office IS A LAYOFF with more steps.

So, yes. We will have unofficial layoffs (RTO after Labor Day) and likely official layoffs tied to earnings.

Do we think certain areas will be totally gone by the end of the year? One more than the other?

@a3 The names of the folks to be released was submitted weeks ago. They know the names very early on, the long period after the names is for HR to build and setup all the packages. The bill has absolutely zero to do with the RIFS.

@a2 I don't think any RIFs were canceled as Optum had them in January and April. I know people impacted in both.

Do you think more names added since the bill passed?

July 17th. Fairly widespread due to the last one being canceled after the mu---r. The bill has nothing to do with the size, the names were all submitted weeks ago.
