Thread regarding Sabre Holdings layoffs

The people in the High Castle seem quiet of late

Just wondering when the next shoe is going to drop? It looks like it’s time for an announcement on what next steps are going to be. Airlines are announcing significant cuts in personnel and schedule. Many are offering voluntary programs with a side dish of take-it-or-else.

"Sabre, nor any other company, can pay 10,000 employees with little to no revenue."

The U.S. Postal Service does it. 😂🤣😂

With the TN and AS reorg approaching, there will be layoffs. This will most likely happen in July.

Peak value management would have seen U.S. workers as would have been as a bargaining chip for bailout money. With that now behind us, from the perspective of management it would not make sense to return workers.
Rather the question is at what pace to liquidate the remainder.

“ How long can a furlough last, how long can it be extended legally, when is the deadline to either call people back or lay them off? Six months or a year maybe? Just wondering how long they can keep us in limbo.”
Through July 2020 there is the extra $600 weekly unemployment benefit.
Without that fewer people would feel they have the luxury of waiting to be called back.
Many people voluntarily leaving would mean less severance to be paid out so Sabre could pivot people to lay off status more quickly.
When we get to mid-July with no significant unfurlough people will get very serious about looking for new jobs.

I don’t believe it is a conspiracy theory to believe there will be additional actions related to personnel. In fact, I lean toward believing it’s common sense. We know that bookings have not returned and aren’t expected to return to anywhere close to pre-Covid levels in the foreseeable future. Sabre, nor any other company, can pay 10,000 employees with little to no revenue.

It would be good if Sabre would give some direction. Some furloughed employees have taken other jobs - if they’re coming back they need to give notice by next week. Child care or elder care arrangements may need to be reworked - these things take time.

diq+15hp6Yce & lsh+15hp6Yce ... "announcement that the last furlough is officially a lay-off. " Nope. Wrong. "the next round they do not market as a furlough but they just might. " Nope, wrong again. "Just wondering how long they can keep us in limbo." Communicated plan was July return. Still is as far as anyone knows and you may get confirm soon. Sure, lack of new info can cause anxiety, but don't immediately go to imagining conspiracy or worst case since rarely is and unhealthy for you and everyone reading.

Agree.
Logically I would expect the next round of lay-offs to be wrapped into the announcement that the last furlough is officially a lay-off.
However, given that that is what I would find to be logical, maybe the next lay-off will be an entirely separate announcement.
Hopefully the next round they do not market as a furlough but they just might.
