Thread regarding 2U Inc. layoffs

Cut the Fat

It is very confusing why we have 20 SE Directors; not entirely sure what they do to drive $$$$. It’s mostly, just a conduit to communicate admissions/student success to 2 VPs

What is going on with Bootcamp?

Why is SE always the department to experience layoffs? Not other uses less departments

Where is CEO and how is debt?

Why so many poor ICs lingering?

What is happening with the company?

@gcgq+1tdIDm2c Kept a few because they had to.

One director was to present yesterday in a meeting. I was filling in for my manager. The director was present in Zoom and never presented; leaving their counterpart to fill in randomly. It was super Awk

Agreed on below. The degree directors laid off the last round (JD, LD) vs some they kept ????

As far as SE Goes: there are some phenomenal directors (MS, ADH, KD,NB,GM, AS).

Really wish I could share the rest but….they don’t do much and teams will share such

@3qpg+1tdIDm2c Awww but you still had time for us on the way to the bank I guess, so we must not be that unimportant. Imagine being a director at 2U and thinking you did something LOLOLOLOLOL

Isn’t this whole place problematic? That is why we are here?

Forums like this are incredibly valuable yet dangerous for those who abuse the anonymity. @6qmk+1tdIDm2c using someone elses name in order to dog whistle is extremely problematic.

How many of those Directors are employed to satisfy DEI requirements?

VP bonuses are dependent on meeting specific minimum numbers of DEI employees within their reporting structure.

“Platform company” what a joke! Basically try to go on EdX and bait and switch students into a paid degree. Leverage the student population that went to EdX for free classes and get them to switch over and take a $100,000 degree program instead! 2U ruined the EdX brand with greed. And this clowns are MIT and Harvard that went along were just as greedy, but saw the fool a mile away.

I (student engagement manager) repeatedly asked my director and VP to elaborate on what a “platform company” was and they never could, just talked around in circles.

Pretty sure that is the only skill that keeps the directors employed…able to talk without ever saying anything

@2ifp+1tdIDm2c not sure who you're referring to but the collective confusion surrounding the "platform" initiative was HILARIOUS

Recently laid off. My director actively followed this website and Reddit religiously; promised me my role was never in jeopardy. Alas, enjoying severence

You can ridicule directors all you want, but we’re laughing it up to the bank. Do something with your lives.

Toooooooo funnny. My director who’s MIA all the time (except more dials and more talk time) had the nerve to commend managers today who are all vocal to the team about their loath. No appreciation for ICs. Poor leadership

"Platform" was a buzzword, fake idea that the Quebec (?) guy came up with before jumping ship. He had 'em all reading some self-help book, too.

Remember that whole “platform” transition all the directors were pushing in SE that no one could articulate?

Been saying this for years. But have them tell you how the business simply cannot live on another day without the "support" they bring to the department. Across all of them, they cost the company well over $1.5mil in salary and do NOTHING to influence the bottom line.

They make quick demands, want fast resolutions, provide bare minimum context and show zero grace. Just DO it.

I've been saying this for YEARS even after the big student engagement layoff in 2019. Directors have no purpose outside of whipping the horse that's pulling the cart. The ones that actually matter are partner facing and bring actual value and change to those relationships. They got rid of a few of those directors in the last SE layoff, but not nearly enough. I got moved to a new portfolio recently and my director has been radio silent. Meanwhile, my team is struggling because we are violently understaffed lol. SE directors can get effed for all I care

Oh, you mean saying “at the end of the day” 50 times in a department call isn’t bringing shareholder value? Talking about how you’re personally blessed isn’t bringing value to the team? These directors work so hard! /S

I’ve heard my director say “as long as my managers hold it down, I’ll do my thang”. Funny our whole portfolio misses budget regularly

My director knows nothing but KPI and you need to dial more and why aren’t you dialimg more and why aren’t you talking more.

My
Director SB is so out of touch and refuses to meet with ICs because “I’m booked” booked doing what watching TV? The phony
Shoutout Fridays really motivate the teams, not

Rumor has it SE Directors make 120k+

But what exactly are they doing to drive bottom line revenue? They refuse to engage with partner relations and its 50/50. None of SE Directors understand Student Engagement as a form whole
