Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Was it always like this?

In my eight months here, I've noticed that despite so many meetings, the collaboration is all but nonexistent. Some employees keep everything to themselves and don’t help the team grow, while others are just here temporarily before jumping to their next opportunity. It makes teamwork feel impossible. I'm considering joining the second group, even though I was so happy when I got this job.

@h9 with the New Daily meeting of " what did you do today" what you plan on doing tomorrow" and do you need help. Too many ridicules meetings and being treated like you're in high school. 35 years in the business I really don't need this type of oversight .

@bz This is true.

I always see this p*ssing match between legacy Dell and EMC and which one led to where we are now. I worked at EMC before coming to Dell and honestly, both were good places to be.

What I saw was management on both sides dragging their feet in combining their ISG segments. Resulted in too many people in upper management positions who were redundant in their roles that hung around too long, got too established, and when they were finally were forced to integrate teams, they pushed out non-management contributors with years of knowledge. This has been constant for years.

Even in entry level positions in data center sales, reps are compensated completely differently, have different sales academies, and their management has virtually no overlap until you're one or two breaths away from Michael.

Yes and no, only that it's 10 times worse now. Collaboration has never worked because instead of working as one company you have a bunch of different organizations competing against each other and people ready to backstab whoever just to get ahead themselves.

Now, enter the layoffs and spiral downwards over the last to years and
a) Competition is even worse, because people want to stay relevant.
b) There's a varying degree of quiet quitting and just straight up not being motivated because everyone left are worried they are next

and finally

c) They've already butchered so many teams and organizations with the mentality of "do more with less" that many don't even have the time, even if they wanted to.

It’s in people’s best interest to not collaborate and to hoard and hide as much information as possible. Is more difficult to lay off the only person who knows a bunch of critical information. Why would anyone help someone who could replace them?

Why would I want to collaborate and get to know my fellow coworker, build a friendly relationship with them, depend on them, just for them to just get laid off next month?

@bz

Yes that’s right and they’re all Dell guys. They dropped all the EMC talent over the years. Look who is in charge. A megalomaniac t-shirt wearing f00l. An Oma-loopa lawyer?!?! Really?!? In charge of a heavy technology based division. Then below that you’ve got yourself a bunch of immature babies who can’t make a single decision and don’t have any original thoughts or ideas! There isn’t a single one of them that has a sense of the broader industry and who is willing to take any risk.

At this point, you just get paid, do you work and watch the sh!t show unfold.

No. But depending on your attractive attributes, you were either listened to or mocked.

No it wasn't always like this. It's been like this since Dell bought emc though. When the buyout wentvthrpugh It's like the powers that be took the worst tools, processes, managers, and benefits of both companies and made them the new standard.

MD and Dell stopped being relevant over 10y ago.
The dell-lifers will tell you about the glory days, however.

No, it wasn't always like this he-l hole. Dell manages to destroy the DNA of companies they acquire. 'Play Nice but Win' is a total lie. more like 'Mein Kampf.'

No. It wasn’t always like this. It used to be a great company. Now, it’s just about getting the stock up and trying to get rich quick for MD and JC. The two grumpy old men.

Collab has always been a pain and was the most reported issue on Tell Dell.

Now, it’s just about quiet quitting. Most people have checked out and there are no real consequences either.

Don’t think anything will improve anytime soon.
