Rev01 - including Robery Noyce ... my HUGE oversight!!

Maybe, just maybe the 'better' question to ask ourselves ... who was the BEST CEO!!!

LIST OF PRESIDENTS & CEOS OF INTEL

Gordon Moore (1975-1987)
Andy Grove (1987-1997)

Paul Otellini (2005-2013)
Brian Krzanich (2013-2019)
Bob Swan (2019-2021)
Pat Gelsinger (2021-2024)

No, hubris destroyed Intel on the part of both Pat and BK. Both get equal blame. Instead of sticking with the standard tick tock model, BK approved too many new and complex fabrication technologies on top of 10nm in an attempt to prevent TSMC from catching up. This destroyed yield for years and instead allowed TSMC to surpass us. And Pat over invested in IDM2.0, buying fab capacity for customers we didn't have and before the process was proven even for our own use. Two of the last real CEOs before LBT made insanely huge and ultimately fatal bets that destroyed the company.

@f8 I notice you did not list Bob Noyce, so clearly are biasing the question.

The correct answer is that neither are the worst CEO of all time.

That's because 'all time' is infinity, and the chance that the first few CEOs were the worst is statistically very low.

So it really is a matter of perspective, and statistics.

Besides, LBT at least is doing the right thing, and I never accept binary choices anyway because they are a false setup to a question.

No you are wrong. He made the decisions that shot ourselves in the foot fatally. Fab in Ohio? Come on man. Pat will go down in history as the man who single handily ki-led a semiconductor juggernaut

Pat didn't destroy the company, he only accelerated it. Exponentially.
Problems were there long before he took over.

Pat destroyed the company, by over spending 100B, over hiring of 30000, over promising of 5 node in 4 years (which all failed), over damaging relation with other companies.

Pat hands down. He created this mess. LBT su-ks but he is just playing the cards Pat handed over to him. Pat will go down in history as the man who ki-led Intel. It’s his legacy.

It has to be Brian Krzanich, he set up the failure of Intel.

Sorry but BK and Blob swan deserve that title shared. The first one knew that the decisions he made could have long-term negative effects for the company, the second one was neophyte in the industry and didn't know his a-s from the hole in the ground with the semi-tech.
