No RSU’s a red flag?

I got no RSU grants whatsoever. Should I take this as a red flag? Any managers here who care to comment?

Cash in the hand is better. RSUs might not mature.

Never had any RSU's from vmw. I figured they only awarded them to important people...

I'm a people manager with a respectable headcount number.

Two things you need to know; the equity award pool this year was tiny in comparison to previous years. When I allocated stock it was to less than 20% of my team, and the stock allocation was in the basis of the hardest team members to replace - not past performance. The second thing is keep in mind is the equity allocation cycle pre-dates Broadcom by well over a month - so the two are unrelated, if you didn't get an allocation it's likely there are plenty of your skills in the labor market.

lol I've been working for VMware for 6 years and only ever got RSUs on day 1.

RSUs are not always common in every area of the business and a lot of times require moving teams to get some.

Not all got RSUs this time. It also depends on the VP, they can choose to spread what they got equally to their team members or give it only to their top performers.

The vest on this cycle is a joke. As stated its vaporware and this cycle is even more vapor....

Could be that you’re not as good as you think you are.

Amazing how some are so hung up on RSU’s. I see RSU’s as Monopoly money, it’s vaporware (or rather vapor money)… you only get it if you continue to play the game for the length of time they want you to. But if you quit or they let you go then you don’t get to keep it. I personally cringe if I get RSU’s without a substantial raise. I will take the raise anyway as that is more guaranteed cash in my hand. They can keep their $10-$30k in RSU’s, give me the $30k raise instead. The problem is a raise increases their recurring OPEX for salary, vs RSU’s are a one time payout over a period of 4 years that they get to keep making earnings off those dollars until it finally vests to you.

I’m a people manager who has both been allocated stock (what I would consider to be a relatively healthy amount) and has allocated stock to members of my team, so there is definitely some around. But I’d agree with other responders that that may ultimately be irrelevant if we’re not around for it to vest. Should you be disappointed if you didn’t get it? I’d say that depends - did you get a promotion and / or a salary uplift instead? If not then the lack of stock probably matters less. And finally should you leave if you didn’t get it? Again I’d say that depends? Do you have another offer on the table that equates to your current package plus what you feel you should have had in stock? If not, then I’d be staying where I am if I were you - no matter how slighted you feel.

OP sounds pretty whiny to me. All major tech companies are cutting down on hiring/economy's going to he-l and your complaining about not getting RSUs.

If your so irritated, try the job market and start interviewing. At eod all of us are replaceable, including you

What do you mean $0 in bonus? You still have your previous bonus percentage right? Mine also no change, but I do have previous bonus percentage allocation. With new base, the bonus amount changes as well

I got $0 in bonus which is worse than no RSUs. To me that means they don’t have faith I’ll still be around in a year which is typically the terms of a signing bonus in order to avoid repayment. A bonus is something vmware would have to eat, or at least chase down their owed money. RSUs can just… not happen. Poof.

Who cares, you think you are going to be around for the first vest?

I don’t know this to be fully accurate, but I bet in the deal paperwork they can’t offer stock over a certain amount. I can check when I get to the office, but it is not uncommon to limit that number of shares granted between deal announcement and closure.

Maybe they want us to look outside, so they save some severance?

It is a matter of self respect for me. No RSUs after having a track record of always being awarded, is enough for me to look the other way.
