Officer title?

How does one get an officer title? Any insight on requirements? I’m in middle of interview process for associate manager and recruiter says no, even though all the associate managers in the direct org have AVP titles. What gives? It would be nice to have on a resume over just being an “associate manager”

Anyone who is software engineer /infrastructure engineer/ tech business consultant or senior level of any of those titles are AVP. Lead/principal/sr lead positions get the VP designation. Doesn’t signify any sort of “trust” or responsibility, just a title level.

my AVP title came from my manager (on his way out the door) after I had become a lead in our dept - I honestly don't know where they come from but it's one of those things where it signifies (IMHO) a level of trust from the bank - an endorsement of sorts that says we have faith in this person who has consistently made the right decisions in the company's view.

But yeah, pays no money - Wish I had gotten it before I got married - Coulda used the business card to pull in a higher class of lady ;)

One day I was an architect in consumer lending, then one day I was annointed a VP of nothing in consumer lending architecture. I did not do anything markedly different before or after. It means nothing, other than creating fiduciary duties and hence legal liability. I don't advertise it at work or LI. The less people know, the better.

IMO, it is kind of mean to include it in internal emails. Why am I a VP, while others are AVP or not? Why am I not a SVP?

When I was told I was being given an 'officer' title, I asked if there was any money associated with it. There is not. I could not care less about the title.

Not sure where people are getting the Charlie doesn’t like Officer Titles or Officer Titles are going away idea from. Is that just for those in non-revenue generating parts of the business? It is very prevalent still in Commercial/Corporate Banking on both the Sales and Credit side.

Considering we have 200k employees, that's a bold claim. I'd like an officers title.

I received the title of AVP, another verified peasant, my mom and dad are so proud.

AVP is work more in the metaverse than in the real world. No one cares at Wells Fargo about your officer title.

If you want to apply to be a greeter after you leave WF, you can go ahead and leave the "VP" off your resume, mmmm-kay? It's not hard.

Wells is trying to slowly get rid of officer titles. If you get one, it will not last long.

I’m guessing they hired VPs from Chase for upper management thinking they were actual execs from reading this.

Explains a lot.

Is that officer title Flunky or Chief Flunky?

I have worked for a previous bank where all our management came from, and never saw so many VPs there, which meant absolutely nothing.

Anyone in the large banking industry knows that officer titles are completely useless.

Most people that are not in the large bank industry don't know that these titles are useless, and thus takes them at face value.

That's bad.

Recruiters/hiring managers seeing a VP title on someone's resume will think that they're...you know...an actual VP! They'll ask themselves why in the world a VP is applying for a job that pays 5 figures before discarding the resume and moving on to less confusing resumes.

I wish the bank would just ditch the officer titles altogether.

The best way to get a fancier job title is to get a fancier job by improving your job skills.

I’m a software engineer and have been blessed with the AVP title. It’s a highly prestigious honor and i make sure to put it on my email sig, my resume and tell my family all about it. Even my co-workers comment on how i am an AVP. Being an Assistant to the Vice President is not for everyone though, it comes with huge responsibility.

#blessed

I have an officer title. Know what it means? Absolutely nothing. As such I do not list having the title anywhere.

Finally got one after working here 2+ decades. It depends on the job role, job title, and most importantly the manager who requests it for you. If all of those don't line up, you don't get it.

Once you do get it, it's as valuable as a boot to the head.

It also doesn't cost the company anything, so there's no real downside unless you consider improved job satisfaction / employee happiness / retention a problem--which the current regime certainly does.

Looks great on a resume and an e-mail signature. Otherwise, worthless.

Is there a single employee at the company that doesn't "sign documents"?!

For those who don't interact with customers or sign documents, I think the execs would like to see officer titles go away. They don't impact any benefit, etc. It's just another relic of the legacy companies.

it used to be that for certain roles everyone got an officer title but I believe that has changed over the last couple years which is why you see everything in the group withvone but new hires/transfers not. To me it means nothing as they are a dime a dozen at wells and a VP here is not the same as a VP at most companies. But if it is that important to you push for it and I am sure they can make it part of the offer.

lolz, $5 says the company would rather hire the second best option rather than award a corp title.

Charles doesn't like anyone that isn't a personal friend from JPM to have an officer title. They have allowed people to retain what they have FOR NOW, but there won't be more under his reign and eventually attrition will get rid of the rest. Fu----g sucks, because I'm one of those rare employees that gives a damn about such things, but I won't be getting such a title here at WF. All part of the 'discourage them until they quit" campaign I suppose.

During the interview process demand they provide you with the Associate Assistant Vice President officer title as part of the offer. That officer title will be very valuable to have on your resume when you interview for your next job.
