Thread regarding IBM layoffs

AI replaceing people at IBM -- or not! Nickel decision not worth 2 cents.

From CNBC.com:
Similarly, IBM replaced its HR functions with AI that handled around 94% of routine requests but was unable to meet the other 6%, which included ethical dilemmas. IBM then announced plans to triple its U.S. entry-level hiring across all business units in 2026.

“If we don’t continue to invest in entry-level hires, what happens in 3–5 years?,” IBM chief human resources officer Nickle LaMoreaux said at a Charter AI Summit in New York. “There’s no pipeline; the well simply dries up,” LaMoreaux added.

Too many bad things get sweep under rug during her time. Everybody know at least one person, or one story, where something happen and nothing ever come from it. Always same result.

I understand HR job is protect company first, this is how business work. But there is no protection for little guy employee. If you are not important, nobody listen. Some of these cover-up are really too much. One day the pile become too big to hide in the dark anymore. Truth have way of coming out, even after many years. When that day come, many people will ask why nobody do anything when they had the chance.

I joined IBM in 2025, and I've found it to be a great place to work. I've had opportunities to learn, grow, collaborate with talented people, and work on innovative projects like the watsonx Challenge. Every large company has challenges, but portraying IBM as a place where every new hire is abandoned and every executive is "useless and slimy" simply doesn't match my experience.

At the end of 2025, IBM executives forced out some of the most talented technical contributors. Recently, IBM brought an army of new hires and interns, hoping to lure the them to commit to IBM.
IBM executives, in their wisdom, were convinced that Bob will be able to train these newly hired graduates and interns. Now, these new hires and interns are running around like headless chicken, with no guidance and no valuable projects.
How can any of these young people trust their lives and careers in the hand of IBM useless and slimy executives ?

As per the official claim by IBM HR, AI handled around 94% of routine requests. They are talking about AskHR. It routinely mishandled about 90% of my requests and others around me had similar experience. You would consider yourself lucky if you ever get a correct reply from AskHR. Nothing but broken links that was symbolic of broken promises by the IBM senior executives. $4.5 billion savings realized from cutting the payroll went to prop up the stock price to make shareholders happy so that CEO and his pipmunks could collect million dollar bo--y. What happend to those 8000 HR folks, did IBM ever care to find out? No, but to fill the empty well, they targeted the naive freshers.

@ed the news is not a surprise at all. Someone posted a while back that IBM India HR liar-bot rage-bait troll shill spanky-pants id--t loser parasite's a-s looks like this
*
Hence the difficulties with surgery.

So if he eats a lot of gold, he might sh-t gold but definitely not gold eggs. For miraculous gold eggs to be produced, he needs his sugar daddies Arvind and Krabanaugh. And maybe his hero, Auntie Joanne Wrong the Client zero. They can cook the IBM books any which way and turn Spanky parasite sh-t into gold eggs for shareholders and investors to drool over. And Spanky will be back in the IBM battery cage soon to tell us about his ordeal with the cage badge reader.

Remember it’s all about costs if you reside in Northern Europe or NA
Don’t believe me? Let’s look at each divisions strategy
SW = buy innovation, and move support and development offshore ASAP
Consulting = enable repeatable AI which is centered in India
Infrastructure = farm legacy IP while moving all support / development offshore (NOTE Enterprise gets an exception to this strategy)
Back office = offshore
So what’s the common thread? Who will work for less. You got it. Offshore

It has been reported that the IBM India HR liar-bot rage-bait troll shill spanky-pants id--t loser parasite is in the hospital. Raised as a chicken in a small battery cage at IBM, he was conditioned to believe that he was a golden goose. So he cut himself up by swiping the IBM badge across his a-s to lay the golden eggs only to realize that there was nothing but sh-t and a lot of it. He was rushed to the emergency last night and the doctors there had a pretty hard time stitching up his stinking a-s together.

@OP This process is similar to raising farm animals (chickens, cows, pigs) in small battery cages, stables or pens for sla-ghter. They are fed the best food after being born in the pens, stables and cages and live out their lives in confinement until the day they go to the butcher, abbatoir or sla-ghterhouse. The only difference with the IBM process - this time you're doing it to young humans who you keep for 3 to 5 years in a great environment and then chuck them out without warning into the world for no reason other than they became a trifle expensive for the IBM company to keep on the payroll. Use Layoffs or PIPS to get rid of them. Then the company will look for the next batch of humans to recruit until it's their (the young human's) time to move on. It's extreme Capitalism at it's worst but that is what Ms. Nickel and Dime and her HR department are doing as their strategy for IBM growth. Maybe the same needs to be done to these IBM executive people too.

Nickel, the Laughingstock of IBM HR

There once was a woman named Nickel,

From IBM HR, odd and fickle.

She hired a hat,

Shook hands with a cat,

And paid the whole payroll in pickle.

She once sent a memo to toast,

Then praised it for “leading the most.”

She gave pens a raise,

Sang staplers her praise,

And threw a parade for a post.

when the conversation devolves into poems mocking an executive's name, it's no longer a serious discussion. If the criticism is valid, it should be able to stand on facts instead of personal ridicule.

The Logic of Nickel

Dear Nickel is not a keen scholar,
She’ll never be worth a whole dollar.
Her bulb has gone dim,
Which makes IBM quite grim,
She's always putting IBM deeper in squalor.

The Dim Coin
A person named Nickel is perfectly fine,
But never quite as bright as a dime.
Their thoughts are all copper,
Their logic improper,
They simply don't sparkle or shine.

Don't take this warning from Mama LaMoreaux lightly... She has said it, the well will dry up in 3 -5 years, and she means it... So who is in the well ? The senior folks who have significant tenure with IBM whether by choice or being bought.. Writing is on the wall or the well whichever way you want to put it - You guys are not needed anymore here in 3-5 years, we will push with selling our good for nothing products by creating the hype around AI and Quantum and use the naive entry level hires who we can easily blue wash...

Good job IBM by keeping the pipeline ready to put people on PIP in 3-5 years when they have served their purpose and are no longer needed.
