I find it especially cruel that the leadership decided to let us know layoffs are happening and then add that it will take several weeks to implement them. That leaves all of us to think of nothing else but layoffs for weeks to come. And we all know stressing over whether we'll have a job by the end of this or the next month is great for mental health. This could have been handled much better, in my opinion.

I'd personally rather be told the same day, yes. What exactly is the point of working for a company that has already made the decision I'm redundant?
Give me my money and let me go or let me work in peace.
No offense but OP needs to pull their head out of the sand.
Would OP rather be told same day ?
OP (et al) SHOULD take the time to start looking for other jobs. Internally and externally? Yes.
Have your half hour aaaah and get on with the search. You're just torturing yourself.
To anybody thinking I'm unsympathetic - I was re-deployed at IBM mid November 2022 and recently converted to RA April 4th last day May 4th. Everybody that knows me knows I wasted no time on waaah (well 30 minutes) and got on with resume and job search (internal AND external) near full time. So have your waaaah and suck it up buttercup and take control of your life.
This is your true welcome. You are going to get the severance package as everyone else at IBM and there is nothing above market about it.
Has anyone heard what is included in the above-market severance payout? I understood that we would receive written details by end of day, but still have not received anything. Anyone else?
At least they let you know ahead of time to prepare. Most of us find out the day of that our position has been eliminated.
@fhy+1miNyoBm Right. We're barely human to the C-level. The moment the profits dipped a little bit, they are already ready to sack the "ballast", without even considering any other option.
Are you really still so naive that you think other people care about your mental health? Hint: They don't.
If you haven't learned to dance on eggshells by now, it's already too late. It all sounds very frightening.
Keep in mind that anywhere outside the US there usually needs to be a consultation period with the work councils and there is quite a lot of red tape.
Organizing such a process takes time and in some cases, various approvals depending on the actual countries the layoffs are occurring. Even then, there might be changes from the list today, to what the various bodies approve.
I wish it was clear who is going to communicate this at least. Is it going to be the manager or the people team?
My collegue as recently received feedback about his "low performance" from the manager, no messages in his inbox and he has to wait for the manager to come back from the PTO. He's devastated.
