Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Walmart VP takes money from Indian contractors

https://www.ctol.digital/news/walmart-fires-vp-kickbacks-terminates-1200-contractors/

We always suspected there was funny business between the literally thousands of offshore (Indian) contractors and Walmart tech leadership. We’ve been saying it for years. Favoritism, lucrative contracts, Indian VPs, Directors and managers all bringing in Indian H1Bs and Indian contractors.

None of this is a surprise. What is a surprise is why the federal government hasn’t investigated Walmart for the extreme abuse of the H1B program.

I was working as a staff engineer for Walmart for over 10 years and was laid off this May. I was approached by a staffing agency which hires ex-Walmart as consultant for Walmart with hourly pay of $45-55. Not sure it’s a scam or is it a new way Walmart saves money by laying off full time employees then hires them back as consultant with a much lower hourly rate.
I did not proceed with this agency because i don’t feel comfortable with this.

@e8 you might be slightly confused. The IER provisions are in place to prohibit discrimination in the employment process. That’s a very “loose” description, but that’s what it does.

Walmart can surely layoff or fire US workers and replace them with non-US workers. There’s nothing illegal about that. Walmart is a “At Will” employer. They can fire and hire at will for any and all reasons.

Is it good to do that? Is it moral to do that? Probably not.

Would Walmart be able to withstand an in-depth review of their H1B hires over the last 10 years to ensure each and everyone meets requirements?

That is highly doubtful. I know for an absolute fact managers have been forced to fill out the H1B forms under the strict direction of directors and VPs without verifying there’s no US workers that fit the requirements of the role. This is especially prevalent in areas with Indian directors and VPs.

"Yes, it is generally illegal for companies to fire U.S. workers and replace them with temporary visa holders for less money. Federal law prohibits such practices, and the Immigrant and Employee Rights Section (IER) of the U.S. Department of Justice investigates and prosecutes these cases. " If this could ever be proven in court, Wal-Mart is going to be on the hook for millions upon millions perhaps billions.

Yep, many have lost jobs to the Visa's, they pay them less to do the same jobs as Americans and there's nothing to deny here, it's more or less hiring illegals to replace Americans and using the loop hole H-1B visa's to do it "Legally" . Something else that you may find shocking is "The 3 to 1 rule for a U.S. visa refers to the "three-for-one" rule, where three years of specialized training and/or work experience are considered equivalent to one year of college-level education. This rule allows individuals to meet the educational requirements for certain U.S. visas, particularly the H-1B visa, without holding a traditional bachelor's degree. The experience must be progressively responsible, and documentation from experts or recognized authorities is needed to verify the equivalency. " ........ So they are given college credits for never attending and simply using "work experience" to do it, how's this fair to Americans? Walmart is No friend to the American citizens.

@a8 Your comment is not only wrong, but it’s stupid and ignorant, like all your posts.

The crux of the matter is that this kind of activity is exactly what you get when Indian execs and managers are involved in engagements with Indian outsourcers. It has nothing to do with who the president is. This started happening years and years ago.

There’s been a huge hole in Walmart tech leadership since they brought in KAT.

What is new in this ?

Any one in IT should know this already. It’s very common that VP and vendor/Contractor from same region. It’s hard to take bribery in US above $100 lunch etc.. as per many big corporations policy but very easy to take millions in Countries like India/ China/ Pakistan / Mexico / Philippines etc..

Tons of folks over internet talking about this all the time. Mainly uses overseas relative account or cash exchange in home country or undervalue property in cash etc.. are some common ways for these cheat executives. On paper IT consulting business is $300 billion but with bribery it’s $800 billions. Ask many politicians after 10 vodkas shots down and they will tell u truth!!

Guess what, this is by Design. Why?

This is only possible due to relax laws regarding Joint employment and independent contractors. Companies uses middle man using this model to do dirty games.

Guess what, who loves independent contractors and no restrictions on joint employment? 47th

Whole goal of temp work visa is to suppress wages for hard working US citizens. wars , migration , temp work visa , Wall Street profits all connected. This is all by design and in Fancy finance term called Macro economy.
