Broadcom recently posted a video titled "Working at Broadcom", featuring what employees like the most. If you haven't seen it, watch it then come back to read the rest. I'll wait. https://www.linkedin.com/posts/broadcomsoftware_working-at-broadcom-the-flexibility-activity-7003387353788481537-MmwD
Okay, seen it? If you are a multi-billion dollar organization with a huge marketing team, promoting what it is like to work for them, and this is the best they can come up with, then just wow. Red flags. There are actually many more videos like this on their LinkedIn page.
This is what I heard:
- Broadcom pays really well
- Everyone is really talented, intelligent, driven, and will pull you out of your comfort zone even when you don't want to (this is literally what she said)
The last one made me sp-t out my morning coffee. He says the best thing is the flexibility! Why, because "We can work all together, so if we need help we can go to anyone in engineering or management" - So.... you mean we're all stuck in the office together? That is very flexible (for Broadcom)
Let's break this down. They pay really well, probably because of long hours and they don't allow remote working like the rest of the industry. Then they go on to talk about everyone else, and how talented they are. I don't give a flying F*** about that. Then the flexibility of being stuck in an office all together, which makes it easy to ask someone a question. Holy sh-t, perhaps that also saves them on Zoom, Slack and Teams licenses.
I have worked at VMware for over 10 years. That's right, one of the long haulers. I am signing my offer letter for a new role at another company today. This video was the last nudge I needed.
