Oxy Stock

The stock price is $11.34, almost exactly the same as it was in March of 2000. Twenty years of gains wiped out.

Sorry, Altura and Elk Hills acquisitions were not done by Chazen, it was Irani. He was the one that took Oxy to the next level. Chazen was CFO, managing the finance, not dictating the direction of the company. Once a CEO Chazen didn’t do anything that remarkable.

Meanwhile, in the last 20 years Oxy has returned to shareholders over $25 B in dividends. Yes the dividend is effectively gone now, but oil prices are at almost 20 year lows.

Oxy stock is now $4 less than what it was when I joined them in 1981. A great investment!

@ihs - and technically you're not considering inflation either. Per Google, the average inflation rate the last 20 years is 3.22%. I doubt the dividend has beat that considerably over the past 20 years. And let's hope people didn't reinvest their dividends into more Oxy stock at high prices. Bottom line, Oxy has been a horrible investment for the past 20 years on the whole.

Technically it sounds like you’re not considering total shareholder return (that is, dividends in this case).
