Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

I'll give EM as much respect and consideration as they gave me

I got an offer for a new job. I'm in the middle of a major project here and my leaving would be bad in itself, but my leaving without giving any advance warning or a two weeks' notice could really turn things messy for everybody involved. While I feel for my coworkers, that's exactly what I'm planning to do. I don't owe this place a thing considering how I've been treated here for the past several years. I'm willing to burn this bridge just to sc--w over my manager and those above him.

I think the best thing to do is: If you need the money of two weeks stay until the two weeks ends, if not just leave without giving a notice. Use the same professionalism that they use when they try to layoff you. You will learn the lesson and you find that there are more places to work.

@1fvw. Baseless statements? Any document you produce while in the company’s employ is company property. Erasing or password protecting is destruction of company property. I’d agree it’s unlikely they would pursue it in court, but if they did I can only imagine the value they would place on the missing documents. Perhaps value based on the wages they payed you while you worked the project?

OP put in your 2 weeks motive and then immediately go on PTO for 2 weeks…

Just give two weeks' notice that you are resigning and going to work for another company and refuse to tell ExxonMobil where you are going to work.

Management and H/R will walk you out the door within 24 hours for refusing to disclose where you are going to work. This is the safest and most legal approach for transitioning to another company.

Love the managers fear mongering, even on this independent board. The superiority of these people is unfathomable.

@1wkv+1rL0Gccr, there always be an assessment process but not all company have extreme bias, lack of transparency in their process. XoM claims to be special in sc--wing people and their careers up. I am surprised that you don't know the unspoken thing at XOM if you claim to be working here. XoM doesn't rehire people unless and unless you have a very rare and specialized skills we struggle to recruit for. But with BTC even this is not issue as all the specialized skills are in BTC ;)

@1xmf+1rL0Gccr, you are saying as if his coworkers really care. And besides his coworkers would do the same thing if they had the opportunity. OP it is your decision, do as you please and rightfully you don't XOM anything!

You've let this company destroy your integrity, which is unfortunate and solely your responsibility to uphold your values if you had them to begin with. If you go out as you plan, you are mostly sc--wing your co-workers. Good luck moving forward from this experience with that mindset.

@OP+1rL0Gccr There is the other alternative that has not been brought up yet. Hypothetically speaking, let's say you stay at XOM and forgo this offer. Worst case, you are NSId and put on a PIP or opt to take the PIL and can never apply to XOM again. This option presents risk as you may be put on a PIP that is insurmountable and you may also not be able to land another job as quickly as you did this one given the economic conditions right now. There is a chance that you could be unemployed for months to years. No matter where you go though there will be an assessment process so the decision is ultimately up to you.

@1ccs+1rL0Gccr Illegal? Don't talk complete rubbish. Obviously an ExxonMobil manager response. Do you folks believe to your own baseless 'statements'?

Unless you are so late in yuor career you are unlikely going to look for another job after this new one, always keep things professional, leave a door open.

@OP+1rL0Gccr

I know exactly how you feel because I was treated very poorly before I resigned.

While I could have scr*wed the company over many times, I did not. I did everything with integrity and to the best of my abilities until the end. Why? Because I will not be like them….

Until you walk out the door, please uphold your values… you know what is right and wrong. At the end of the day, what matter most is the pride you have in your life’s work and the positive impact you have. I am sure there will be a few who will miss working with you.

That is illegal and the company can come after you in civil and criminal court even after you turn in your resignation.

@ffj+1rL0Gccr

Intentionally deleting documents also shows criminal intent.

@OP+1rL0Gccr

If you do not disclose the company that you are going to work for when you turn in your resignation, the company will walk you out the door within 24 hours of your resignation.

Please also remember that ExxonMobil may be working with the company that you are going to work for someday. You really do not want to burn bridges because it may come back to haunt you someday.

Best thing to state in your 2 weeks notice is that you have a better offer at Company XYZ and you feel that career opportunities are much better at Company XYZ. No need to burn bridges.

You can always continue to post on TheLayoff.com anonymously to vent your frustations.

Keep us updated... feel free to delete your own information, and documents that will no longer be needed. They're going to flip out when they find out there isn't a minion they can abuse to save their butt.
