Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Can we wrap layoffs fast this time please?

Last time with the long august announcement to mid-october wrap was bad for morale (we still haven't recovered) and made management look inept.

In the name of One Intel can we not spend months wondering which coworkers are the "deadwood" this time?

@kh you must work on wall street. no?

I kind of understand what you are saying.

Do you still own the stock right here? I don't think it is a good idea.

No win situation.

If you right size the business to generate a profit you will destroy people and accelerate the bankruptcy

if you layoff slowly, the shareholder value gets transferred to the workers slowly over time, merely prolonging the day they have to go find another job.

At the end of the day, it really doesn't matter what happens. There are 2 things an employee can do

  1. Accept they may get cut and ride the train out to a conclusion. How the employee does this is an individual choice.
  2. Start looking for a new job now.

Stressing out about it will do no good and will harm your long term health.

BK and others wrapped up layoffs very quickly by having HR and GMs to pick those to go.

No consideration for what the person was actually contributing in most cases. They even had to rehire some of them because there was literally no one else who knew how to do their job.

Time will prove this out, but my guess is that LBT is after something much better than that, targeting products to be eliminated, low performers as usual, and some of the middle management that he has mentioned.

Combined with RTO, he is doing exactly what Amazon is doing right now. Similar efforts are underway at all the other mega tech companies, so LBT is largely just following the trend.

I'm expecting that he will follow up the immediate effort with further reductions based on fab restructuring and eventually due to AI adoption. Robotics follows that but that might be in 5 years or something.

Get used to it and leave if you can't stand change, because it is coming faster than ever.

most Intel employees don't understand the company is burning cash at an alarming rate.

they think the company is profitable, but when you look at the deprecation of wasting factory assets for unfilled fabs coupled with continued massive investments in equipment that will go under utilized the situation is shocking and FUBAR

@bt: touche. Expecting LBT to change that is delusional wishful thinking

@b4: I’m merely pretending to be so lah dee dah skilled as to be layoff proof to better connect with my audience. But in reality if you’re really good at what you do and Intel doesn’t need it any more then you’re not safe either which is a shame because the way CPM recycled stranded talent made some sense

@as... ironically the factory buildings will probably be used for AI data centers when they get sold. Lots of power, cooling, and big open spaces. Intel missed the AI hardware bo-m but got into AI when it goes out of business.

Appearantly OP hasn't worked at Intel very long. When has Intel ever done anything "fast" in the past 25 years?

LBT unfortunately has a very asian mindset. i hope this time the layoff should be less painful than the recent one lol

It all part of the LBT “Culture Shift” are we all feeling warm and fuzzy about working at Intel yet? Going to be another horror show. “The turn around will not be televised”

Take caution about re-org this time, not like the re-org in 2021 which was a complete disaster. In the 2021 re-org, it was a break down everything and re-assemble. The good "table" is broken down into pieces, and became crippled and shaky.

The layoffs will continue until there is no one left on-site and the buildings can be sold to Walmart and Amazon as warehouses.

Haha do we do anything efficient or intelligently? No it will be a clusterfu-k and make things worse then they are now. The panic, the miscommunication, the morale….. actually we do something efficiently and with great skill - we lie A LOT and have been for over a decade

Shall we start with your position?

I just have to laugh. This is exactly the same as last time. Calls to flatten the org by reducing middle management, yet somehow the commandment from the CEO gets reworked at the VP level and the middle managers get to stay.

And then they have the ba--s to look you straight in the face and tell you it’s tough being manager.

They are just giving you ample time to leave on your own with no severance. I am not saying management isn't inept, this is just part of the overall plan.

LBT is clearly choosing to focus on what the company should be doing as 'core' activities, which will lead to the bulk of the layoffs.

This is in contrast to all previous layoffs, which were just to meet lowered targets. Thus the focus on retirement and vsp, and why most of this adjustment will not be voluntary.

There are also low performers but that is maybe 5%.

All the easy reductions have been taken. This is what real leadership looks like.

One Intel is dead. When you have a C-mmie run your company like Tan, you'll find out you ain't one of the Ones.
