Thread regarding Canon Inc. layoffs

Holiday weekend

Does the power structure in this company understand that forcing people into the office on Thursday next week after having Memorial Day off feels like a punishment for having the audacity to acknowledge a federal holiday?

I know they don't care but really? Waste our money and time and the company's utility bills because we've just GOT to have 3 days in the office?

Zero benefit, only inconvenience and annoyance. I suggest everyone just chit chat all day and use the bathrooms as often as possible.

The sad part is that it feels like we are punished because there is a Monday Holiday.
The ironic part is not all divisions do this. I'm looking at you CFS. I appreciate the continuation of the hybrid schedule. I think a great thing to do would be to do away with this policy. Thank you.

@f7 Regarding the “just be thankful you have a job” remark. I’ve heard that from a few leaders over the years, and ironically it often comes from the ones who should be most thankful they have the position they’re in. Many didn’t earn it through competence or merit, but through circumstance, timing, or connections. Being thankful to have a job and expecting to be treated with respect are not mutually exclusive. Gratitude should never be used as a way to silence valid concerns, excuse poor leadership, or in this case a ridiculous holiday policy.

@f7 “ just be glad you still have a job” is the exact messaging used by every toxic manager in corporate history. It’s the mentality used by those profiting off the backs of the real workers while they sit in meetings and treat people like nothing more than lines on an expense sheet. A red flag of greed and disdain for their fellow man. The type of person who should be replaced by Ai first and documented as an example to our children of what not to become.

It's very simple. Do we see how unions strike? Why don't we all form a pact to simply work from home on Thursday. The only way management will get the message is if we all band together and do something collectively instead of complain on a website.

These stupid small things that executives are implementing, that irritate everyone, adds to their frustrations and makes people leave the company. People are leaving in droves for better opportunities out there, higher paying as well. Don't let management tell you there's no jobs out there. They're full of cr-p! If there weren't any, nobody would leave then.

@f7 this company first, capitalist obsessed culture must have you brainwashed to be licking the boots of anyone who gives you a job no matter how many people’s jobs you’re doing for the same pay.

“Ooh thank you sir for allowing me to eat this day and pay my bills so I’m not homeless. Please do what you will with my time and body!”

Do you bow down to the posters of billionaires in your bedroom at night and be like hey just because we live in a society that has become harder and more stressful as the years progress regardless of how much we learn about the benefits of mental health and not working ourselves to death it isn’t all bad? I love you Elon Daddy

If you want to live like this, that’s fine! maybe you can take on everyone’s work as they quit like a good little cuck watching this company continue making bonehead decisions sliding like a po-p out of Sammys an-s into the toilet then do us a favor and jump in front of a train when you realize this shouldn’t be how life is.

@hq wow working here is like slavery now? Going into the office for an additional day must be the end of all times.

Just sad

@f7 slavery ended in 1865 buddy. Since then, workers have fought for their rights to prevent companies from abusing them. Stop being a scab, it impresses no one.

@a7 “what kind of company would we be?” A responsible one that actually cares about the mental and financial health of its employees. Which this company clearly is not.

@b6 You can also smell sewage when you walk into the Burlington office B-Side front entrance on certain mornings. Congrats CFS, welcome to your new home!

@a7 I hope that was sarcasm. “Collaboration” doesn’t exist any more in the office. All we do different in the office is bemoan our local sports teams and gripe about our cr-ppy commutes.

This place blows! Why do anything at all to make the employees happy or comfortable? Everything they do is a big eff you to all of the workers. Let’s just take a look at the sardine can set up in Burlington. If they could have made bunk beds/desks they would have. The whole place will be a fire hazard once that many employees get shoved into a small tight space! Canon Financial get ready to go from MtLaurel to a bug invested horribly climate controlled ever so depressing office in Burlington. Please accept Our condolences in advance!

I wish we could vote for the removal of the C-suite executives. I think it would be a landslide. Their unpopularity is undeniable.

Requiring employees to still come into the office defeats the whole point of recognizing the holiday in the first place. Expecting employees to “make up” that day just turns a benefit into a penalty. The company loses nothing by adjusting expectations for a shortened workweek, but forcing extra commute days sends the message that leadership cares more about checking attendance boxes than respecting employees’ time, morale, or work-life balance. This would be an easy win for leadership but they don’t care. They don’t want to set the expectation since I’m sure they’re gunnin’ for full return to the office anyway.

What kind of company would we be if we let a collaboration and cross-functional collaboration opportunity slide? Those benefits, once squandered, never be made up.
