Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

What did you accomplish today?

I could probably create a kafkaesque youtube-channel about this, but interested in other people's experiences.

What did you accomplish today at work? Keep it general so you don't get identified by some schmuck.

I got mostly spam emails. Most calls were cancelled. I contemplated investing in a mouse jiggler.

@f2 - I started my career in support and spent 4 years there before I got tired of the BS. That was 25 years ago. Nothing has changed. Nothing will ever change. It's the nature of the role.

If you don't like it, you have to get out into a "professional" position. That usually means leaving the company and coming back.

@f4 It's actually not that hard, you just learn to adopt an IDGAF attitude, look busy when the boss walks by, take 1 call a day, and CYA.

@fj Half the time I don't need to dump. I just go in and pretend so I have a nice 10 minute break to doomscroll IG or read my book lol.

Well, I woke up and took a nice dump. Then took my dog for a 3m walk. Came home and took another dump. Worked for a few hours, then took a nap. After my nap I attended a meeting and after that, I went to the grocery store. Then I came home, took my 3rd and final dump for the day then finished up all my work and went and got a hair cut. Came home like always, checked my empty outlook emailbox, ticked off some work I planned for tomorrow; then played some video games and called it a day.

Got everything I needed to do work-wise done, at home. In under 4 hours. But also got to get everything I needed to do AT HOME done, as well!

If I were at the office, I wouldn't have gotten a hair cut, I wouldn't have gotten groceries, I wouldn't have been able to take my dog for a walk. I still would have napped in my car though. And I still would have gotten my work done in under 4 hours at most.

After my work is done - if I were at the office...

I would have hopped on my phone and watched netflix the rest of the day in one of the random cozy hallway chairs on my personal computer and/or phone; OR go over to the gaming room and played video games. My day wouldn't really "change" but id just be doing it at the office.

@fj I've been doing that 2-3 times a day since 2011.

I do not know how you people in Support do it. It is a tough job. Dealing with our product and an irate customer is not the easiest thing to do. I have buddies that have done it for decades and their brain is just built to take the punishment.

@dj Yes I get a floating holiday in my bin. Yay, let's check the scheduling tool to see when I can use it..... Ah sh-t there's no days for the rest of the year where staffing levels will allow for anyone to take an extra day off.

This is how it has been on my support team for the last several years. If you don't book all of your vaca/fh days the first week of January you get sc--wed. I wasn't originally scheduled to work labor day, but gad to step in because someone quit.

Day isn't over but I've done no work yet. Sat in, muted, on a few meetings without contributing. Caught up on the news and general web surfing.

Not sure anything is getting done this afternoon either. Oh well...

How do you NOT have a jiggler yet? I've had one since about April of 2020 and have it plugged into my work comps nonstop. Nobody has even so much as mentioned it across 2 companies and 4 roles.

Since my role is being outsourced and our tickets are getting significantly decreased, I skipped some of my trainings and hit COMPLETE.

In other words, waiting for the axe…

@ad+1k4381d6x - since when? It's not like the company steals the holiday from you. You get a floating holiday to take on another day when coverage isn't needed in support. That's the nature of working in a contact center.

I work in support as well. I sat in an empty office on a hour long teams call with my boss and his boss because a high profile customer accused me of making unauthorized changes to their system. After quietly listening to them read me the riot act I asked them if they wanted to see the zoom chat transcript and screenshots I collected during the zoom that showed the customer request I make changes for troubleshooting, and also showed that I put everything back the way it was when the changes didn't fix the problem. After the call was over I watched YouTube videos.

Back then I used to have a portable .exe for MouseJiggler, but nowadays these kind of app gets blocked by Windows Defender as they are not installed from Company Portal.
I got a physical one for a couple of dollars from AliEx*ress, It works perfectly
