Despite continuous upskilling, volunteering, and strong customer delivery, recognition and advancement tend to favor those who navigate internal alliances rather than those who demonstrate consistent results.

This dynamic leads to inconsistent customer outcomes and undermines the integrity of performance management and compensation processes. Decisions around roles and workforce reductions appear to be made months in advance, resulting in the loss of some of the most capable team members. Additionally, there is a belief that automation will offset these losses, yet the solutions implemented have historically achieved only partial reliability, often requiring more rework than the efficiencies they were intended to create.

Kiss azzes getting the leadership roles in ISG is true. I'd add that none of the men want to have any kind of diversity. All of them are old rotten underwear. They ignore anyone that isn't in their close circle. Everyone else has more of a chance turning lead into gold before they are elevated in any way.

@f1 he's likely not lying, look at some of the available I10 roles and the salary range for the roles most of them go up to $280k and that is the high end of midpoint

@dd you don't get it, the extra work is social media, Linkedin etc, it's your brand, that spreads inside as well. This is probably why people like me make over 300k +bonus+RSUs as an IC and you are on here just complaining all the time. Manage your career, have other companies pursue you and use that as leverage to get more money here. If you aren't interviewing and bringing a competitor's offer to your manager once a quarter, you aren't working, you're just do-g something to get a paycheck.

This is the sh--e that has Dell in the position its in already, dopey fu----s trying to tell others how to do their job on other teams because it was a task assigned by their manager... Reminds me of the Field managers not wanting to be contacted by support as it was outside their scope, but proceeded to ping and call support to escalate sh-t. 😂

Not managing your career and not ensuring others are aware of your value is where most people go wrong. They think that being seen by their immediate team is enough, but you need to be operating at an org level and beyond. Establishing a network and fostering it with meaningful recurring meet ups, helping other orgs solve problems outside of your day job. Making sure your leader puts you in positions for stretch assignments with teams and topics outside of your expertise. That's not politics, that's just career management 101. I always tell people that is you aren't putting 10-20 hours a week in addition to your job to ensure you have a job and more importantly, the next one you want, you aren't even trying.

Didn’t Dell make promises to fill so many board seats with people from minority groups and make sure half of managers were women. All based on gender and race with competence coming in 3rd?

They also had a high ranking person in charge of DEI. Did all those high-minded and short sighted goals disappear?

@OP Agree. Leadership in ISG is nothing but a clown car show. It is truly the worst in the history of IT. They can't release anything on time and most products that are released, they're often so buggy they have to be pulled back off the shelf. They don't follow modern, best practices and their engineering and product leadership are 20 years behind the times. No innovation and no AI relevance other than a chip slot. ISG is a mess and has been for years.

@OP exactly right. The story matters. Delivery not at all. In isg we have the most incompetent leadership I’ve ever seen. They all can’t deliver and all kissed a-s to get to where they are. Embarrassing.

Internal politics dictate EVERYTHING in large companies. And I do mean everything. A competent employee is absolutely kisssing a$$ and su-king up to whoever needs that su-kkky su-kkky.

Anyone that's an IC is just a random badge number on a huge spreadsheet. Easily deleteable at a moments notice. You could be an amazing employee but if you never took the time or effort to connect with others both on your team AND outside of your team, other managers or directors and, never made yourself liked or noticed by them, then you are invisible to the higher ups. You end up being a good employee like 75% of everyone else.

Being a good employee is great but, you need to also make yourself known to those who have more seniority and/or "pull." Network yourself. Schedule 1x1's with other managers or directors or those who have higher seniority on other teams. Make a name for yourself.

Gotta play the political game otherwise you WILL be left behind and/or laid off.

it's how you move up the ladder and get better raises/promotions and helps secure your job from layoffs.

Yeah, nobody likes to "drink the koolaid" but hey, if that means better raises or promotions or, not being on the next lay off list then... so be it!
