Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Hats off to Vicki

VH is really doing a terrific job behind the scenes to keep Oxy competitive and ahead of their peers. I was super impressed after listening to town hall yesterday. Oxy is in a very good hands with VH and her leadership. FYI, I am not a HR troll but an Oxy employee that have worked in other O&G companies but from experience feels Oxy is the best so far. You may have a different a better or less favorable outcome than mine. What’s your experience with Oxy compared to other companies?

For sure the employees at Oxy are well taken care of. The stockholders don’t really care about how great your bonus is or whether you can work from home two days a week while doing the dishes, watching TV, or walking the dog.
What we care about are the returns on the market and accurate guidance. Unfortunately with poor performance comes insecurity for y’all.

OP another fan boy willing to totally ignore track record, facts and everything else. There will never be anything gets through to them, no matter how much you point out.

This post stinks so bad it must be from a new hire in the HR bullpen.

@ez+1jnpy02xb, is TH Tom? Sounds like a long vacation somewhere in South America maybe just what you need. I hear Venezuela is nice this time of year.

The future's not ours to see

Two years? You do know that we will find a way to give him another four years in 2028? Plans are already being made. It will be glorious! You will love it.

Agree. The best thing we can do is legally remove DT in two years. By the way did anyone’s 401k go up last week?

@OP, you’ve created an almost identical thread just a few weeks ago. We heard you the first time, there was no need to repeat it again.

Oxy has a history of acquiring professional staff thru acquisitions. Permian (pre APC) was ex shell , APC had competent US onshore, International and Gulf of America ;-) staff and Crown Rock had capable staff from the Majors. I haven't known a person that woke up from a nights sleep that said, "I want to quit my job and work at Oxy".. The poster likes their job because till now, Oxy has has staff reductions thru VSP. Paid very well (for nonexistent shareholder value) and the understanding that it is almost impossible for Oxy to recruit competent staff away from real Oil and Gas companies. When the bo-m drops (and it will), it's going to be ugly.

Just because layoff haven’t happened here yet, doesn't mean they won’t. Don’t be so naive. Consolidation and cost cutting throughout industry has and is occurring. It’s not the brilliance of management, it’s a warning. And don’t you think they wouldn’t want to upgrade some of our employees with talent from Chevron, Shell, …

OP - I agree. When I see what is going on with Shell, BP, and Chevron employees I feel blessed we are not all going through what they are as employees.

Weird obsession with HR that this kid has. Must have been fired due to incompetence at some point. Sorry son, life will get better. I’ve found the HR people to be mostly helpful. There are exceptions, of course. No layoffs coming at Oxy. In the meantime we’ll all keep collecting our nice salaries and bonuses. Engineers, IT, Finance, and even the evil HR employees are safe.

Smells like a worried HR dept in here. Either this company is sold or AI, HR slobs will be gone soon.

Bye Bye

I think Vickie is a great ceo. She does care about the employee. We are only one among all the majors with hybrid schedule

Some of these folks at the top are psychopaths.
I had one company president in 1998 who invited people to lunch in groups of 10 to tell them how awful the situation was. Many people went to that lunch feeling like they were special and came out bummed. And then two months this leader told many people in a Bako parking lot that they were layed off.
These so called leaders should be featured on programs alongside serial killers.
So you do currently have a leader who is nice but beware.

My condolences if Oxy is at the top of your work experience list. Must say this smells of an HR drop to me. I have never met anyone (ever) who ever had anything but meh for this company.

Town halls are quarterly and not tied to layoffs. Heaven forbid the CEO have a regular companywide outreach that isn't a "you're out of here" message...

Ahead of your peers. Did I read that correctly. That’s bull.
Town hall meetings frequently come before layoffs. You should get that resume ready to go. Why don’t you become a dock worker. They pay really well. I heard over 150k per year.

It’s obvious that you are. poor performer thankful for a job. Have worked elsewhere and Oxy is the bottom of the barrel technically, not a partner of choice, and has incompetent self centered self focused inbred management.

Ever heard of putting
lipstick on a pig? Your topic did just that.
