Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

Brace for impact

Wael is a straight shooter——he admits there will be staff layoffs next year. He dismantled a new group just like that.

Time to burnish that resume.

Shell has to be the worst project execution company on the planet. Whether it's large scale legacy projects, or in-plant projects and turnarounds, Shell loves to over complicate and take forever to make a decision... "rule by consensus" needs to die, or Shell will...

I agree with “brace for impact.” Shell doesn’t make a move like this without something up their sleeve. This is a pretty big deal-consolidating divisions of the company. This is either to eliminate redundancies or for a merger/acquisition, or both. Wael was not brought in to just smile and wave.

I've been hearing the rumor for awhile, since Wael led Upstream, that he is not a fan of P&T - too much difficulty in getting them to accomplish anything when compared to the days of those same professionals being embedded directly in their lines of business. Never did I think he'd dismantle. After trying to work with P&T for a couple years now, I'm not a fan either. I would not be at all surprised if P&T is dismantled, professionals mapped back to the businesses they primarily support.

@eyv+1kWzpT8t - you forgot a key part, you can't get rid of your IT staff... in India

There isn’t a direct quote for layoffs but it’s heavily implied

How can there be any reliable performance metrics after a reorg jumbled everyone up less than a year ago?

"That's the neat part. There aren't any."

I am not at all opposed to layoffs (with SVS), but I don’t see anything in his message where he “admits there will be staff layoffs next year.” He alludes to EVP and SVP vulnerability, but I think they already know what is coming.

I am in P&T and I did not realize he was not a fan. I am actually in IT so hopefully he is not lumping us in with rest of P&T ….you can’t get rid of your IT staff!

This is the tip of the iceberg. P&T isn't the only place "underperforming". I hope he does look at performance with real metrics rather than the folks who just talk a good game.

He's is no way close to being done either. P&T, of which he is no fan of, will be soon if not next on the chopping block. I think he will finally be able to implement we need to make it simpler and easier to make decisions and implement. Time will only tell. Hopefully SVS will be offered soon for those of us that are waiting.
