Thread regarding Truist Bank layoffs

Bill said this at the Goldman Sachs conference yesterday

William Rogers

One of the foundational elements of our strategy is to attract, develop and retain great teammates. So they're all sort of parts of that. So the attract is really part of that, that's what we're talking about. We've brought a lot of really great talent into our company. They've got a fantastic perspective. They wanted to come work for a purpose-led company. They wanted to work for a company that the pitch is Truist is a lot like a start-up. You get to be part of the growth of this company, you get to put your fingerprints on it. So that's a great way to attract teammates. But also developing our existing teammates. So we've invested a lot in their personal development. So not only are we bringing new people into our company, we're also developing, and then retaining and then creating an environment where people want to work, where people want to grow their careers and want to have meaningful careers. So it's all three parts of that stool are really important. And we're creating together a culture of high performance, a culture of growth, all embedded and all foundation of purpose.

@2slg+1vVCBjTR You make this same post again and again. If you want something besides capitalism, Venezuela will be happy to have you.

@ewm+1vVCBjTR Preach.
Couldn’t have said it better and exactly what I’ve found here. And it’s not just in one segment or lob. It’s all over.

@2blg+1vVCBjTR Well said… I think nearly every employee can name more than a handful of high performing and well liked teammates that were either riffed or marginalized to the point they felt forced to leave (to your point). It’s not just your usual ‘capitalism’ and no every other bank isn’t like this. I’ve worked at others through good times and bad.
What’s different is that most of the employees that got sc--wed were actually liked by TL’s/MP’s/RP’s… but they didn’t want to even ruffle the slightest feather or request certain employees stay vs others, etc. At least that's what I saw in ccb in my region.

@2blg+1vVCBjTR - Spoiler alert. This is capitalism. It’s not just a “Truist issue”. Most banks are like this and I would argue the culture at big banks is even worse, as it’s more of a cutthroat northeast / NYC culture.

For anyone inside or outside of SunTruist to possibly believe that this EL and BOD give one damn about its employees is insulting. How many quality people have been riffed or marginalized to the point they left on their own? Thousands? You had a good workforce and were too stupid to capitalize on it. When is this bumbling fool gonna take his bag and GTFO? Please take the rest of your clowns with you when you go.

In my department we can’t retain anyone. Teammates who have enough intelligence to understand that this company is a waste of their time, leave often. We have tenured people walking out, we have talented people walking out and we have new people walking out. The amount of requisitions being posted is insane. My managing director spends a few days a month ooo simply interviewing for positions that were recently abandoned. It’s not like these people are giving two weeks either. A lot of them are walking out. I’ve heard my colleagues say it’s because of disorganization, politically motivated promotions, working with poor DEI hires and constantly having to train their new incoming peers who eventually quit for the same reasons as their predecessors.

There’s no growth or development. My managing director has been my manager for over five years and I’m their top performer. When I applied for a position, they said they weren’t aware of my growth goals. I shared that’s because they never ask their workers for a gdp and go over it quarterly but I shared that I email mine over quarterly anyways. This company can give a rip less about your growth or development, they simply want the poorest quality work at the lowest wage and people who are yes sir.
