Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Imagine receiving this email

A letter sent by Microsoft to the concerned employees (via Business Insider) read, “The reason(s) for the termination of your employment including your job performance has not met minimum performance standards and expectations for your position. You are relieved of all job duties effective immediately and your access to Microsoft systems, accounts, and buildings will be removed effective today. You are not to perform any further work on behalf of Microsoft."

HR is finalizing the next round of people to get a similar email.

If you like to sleep in your car during shift, or waste time on the internet, they will give you more free time to do so.

Enjoy!

This communication looks very similar to the one being sent to Liberal Bureaucrats being shown the door

Why should low performers be tolerated anywhere?

Haha. That's what your wife said.

Every person who spends all day on this site should get that letter.

You are Known.

@ep... it is funny that you sent a reference link from NPR. I would bet that their public funding will disappear too. Can't have that blatant bias to the left and expect public funding. Half the people don't want what they are selling yet are forced to pay for it. PBS could go the same route. If you want to keep them around expect to pony up a large sum out of your own pocket.

Over the course of the next 4yrs, the Labor movement in the US will be gutted. Employee rights and OSHA safety regulations will go away. Think of who you voted for then su-k it up because it's going to be a rough ride.

As a manager w/over 20 years experience, if that’s all there is, it isn’t fair. Was the employee given an opportunity to improve? Was there any specific events that caused the termination? During focal, I’ve seen engineers bring up negative events on techs that happened years before…”So and So messed up my SIF.” (Me, checking notes, “Dude, that was in 2015.”). Also, I can’t tell you how many lawsuits come out of termination w/o cause. If the employee really is not performing, then a manager has to have the guts to confront it head on and either remedy or terminate but too many of them don’t want to be confrontational.

@cc… you are describing irrelevant or redundant positions. This is exactly what needs to be addressed. If your manager doesn’t have work for you to do then both your job and your manager’s job don’t need to exist.

@ay, I agree with you for the most part but some humans are delusional and think they are working hard and doing a good job when truly they are not.

All the people at Intel only doing a couple of hours of work

You seem to think that all of those people are intentionally slacking when it's often management that isn't focusing efforts in the correct directions.

Considering that Microsoft is a highly profitable company providing no severance is kind of harsh. This will likely become the industry standard going forward. It will be hard for the people getting the boot to get interviews going forward. Hiring managers will know that it was a termination for poor performance.

All the people at Intel only doing a couple of hours of work if any at all should take notice here. Unless you are financially independent and can live without a job you might want to stop coasting and get involved with your job or your life might be taking a serious downturn. Your next job might need you ask things like: "Would you like fries with your order?"

Even DEI hires know when they're not doing a good job?

Employees that are BE or IR know it before they get the memo. Humans aren't stupid and realize when they aren't doing a good job.

"Why should low performers be tolerated anywhere? Companies shouldn’t be forced to continue to employ people that don’t do the work."

YES!!!
Start with the most expensive low performers, CEO and upper management who hollowed out the company, and work your way down. They have no useful skillset anyway.

Intel should buy that email template from Microsoft. It needs to send out about 35k of those. Everyone who has bragged about only working a few hours a week on this site should be getting one.

The article also mentions that healthcare benefits for terminated employees will end immediately, and in at least three cases, employees were informed they would not receive severance pay. Additionally, the termination letters indicate that if former employees apply for jobs at Microsoft in the future, their past performance and the basis of their termination will be considered.
