Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Voluntary Departure

I do not understand why they do not have a volunteer list that people can sign up for being severanced. The are a lot of staff who are in a position to leave and it would make it so some that want to stay can. Am I oversimplifying it?

False. Parachutes cost much less than a severance. Severance not only includes the payout but also the unemployment insurance costs for the employer. In Optum the lack of a voluntary is due to potential tech debt of to many people wanting to go.

@en It costs the same amount of money as severancing those that want to stay, they would just be severancing people that want to leave versus those that need to stay.

Big difference between what this person is suggesting versus just resigning. Resigning does not result in receiving severance.

Volunteering to leave a company is know as a resignation.
