Thread regarding Fiserv Inc. layoffs

Please just lay me off

I’ve reached the point of return, this company is so dysfunctional and I would never recommend anyone to even look in the direction of this office.

Please just let me collect unemployment and find a new job.

I have officially quiet quit until I can finally be put out of this misery.

Like if you agree

Fiserv is dysfunctional on so many levels. Every year, when we do that “anonymous survey”, I always comment that I would never recommend my friends or family to work at this company.

I don’t see my opinion changing anytime soon.

It's true that layoffs happen. Most employers understand this is the current business world we all live in. And often, perfectly fine people are adversely impacted due to over-hiring, changes in business cycles, product line consolidation and a host of other reasons.

But with quitting you can expect prospective employers will wonder about the "gap nonsense." For sure their spidey senses will be tingling. What a candidate has to say about it will be critical.

Oh, and my insurance is only 50 bucks biweekly for family coverage, with a family deductible of 1200, and annual family max out of pocket of 3200. State paid pension. 457 with better rules than 401j. Union job so I know what my annual raises are, plus mandatory cost of living increases...yeah no regrets.

I got RIF'ed last year after more than two decades of service. Got severance and luckily had a public sector job potentially lined up before I was even let go, but had postponed my start date because I thought I'd be finishing the year at Fiserv (the public sector job was not federal level thankfully).

Anyway, despite me being productive and working on KT, Fiserv let me go earlier than planned. Whatevs. For the last five months off, I've been taking unemployment (in a blue state where the UI benefits are actually livable). Have enjoyed the time off and I finally start my new gig a week from Monday at a pay rate that's only slightly lower than I was making at Fiserv. I also learned a trade in the meantime that's going to pay extremely well moonlighting until I possibly reach a tipping point and do it full time. No regrets waiting for the RIF...

FDC thrived on laying people off. It’s not you it is them. I saw top talent be walked out the door only to be on an overnight code red call asking for the person they walked out the door to join. It is a dysfunctional company. Leave go find another job while you have one. FB gives zero fs about your well being. If you get severance more power to you. They royally f ed me over when they converted me to a contractor. 21 years. Stock grants gone. Severance gone. Leave….

Give only what's required and use that extra energy to aggressively search for another job. You can control how soon you're able to start the new gig. Tell them you have to give a month's notice. Give 2 weeks and have 2 weeks to rest. Choosing to leave is better than a layoff because you can't know how long it'll take to find another job in either situation. But at least when you're still employed, you aren't missing any paychecks.

Also, don’t fall into the “gap” in employment nonsense either. It’s 2025 not 1975 where people worked at the same place for their whole careers. People get laid off. It happens, frequently.

They want you to think there’s no severances “on the next cut” - that’s simply not true. That’s been the rumor the last 3 years. This is to avoid people quiet quitting and taking the payout.

Find a different job that you think you may like and don't wait for severance. Job searching is no cup of tea and it's tough!!

In general, the best way to find a new job is to have a job while you apply for a job someplace else. Hard to say how long the job search might take before you're successful. Unemployment and severance pay might run out before you find something else, and that could cause you (require you) to accept something less than optimal. Also, by having a job you can avoid an awkward discussion about why you have a gap in employment.
