I am interviewed for a software engineer position in Ford Credit. Cleared and awaiting offer. I have 16 years of relevant experience. Can I expect GSR8 level? What salary figure I can ask if there is a need for a counter offer or just stick to level of GSR8 and let the HR offer be based on level?. Also, is the joining bonus offered anymore? I am not relocating.

During my "job negotiations", reality was slow to set in. Thus, when HR said my 15+ yrs of experience and masters degree wasn't going to increase their offer, and I could either accept the offer or look for a job elsewhere ... I reluctantly accepted their offer. In hindsight though, had I known then - what I know now about the company ...... I would have left the offer on the table and ran. So carefully weigh whether youre willing to live with the possibility that a career could unexectedly end after 9 yrs 11 months and not reach the milestone, just so the company can do headcount reductions to save a few dollars.
With your experience, you should ask for 120k and at least a 10k bonus. You don't need any other offer in hand to negotiate
For those questioning hiring while also firing, yes they do that. During SRD there were posted positions some with same job title held by people being separated. Before the purge everyone was told that displaced individuals would be moved to open positions if the skills were similar. That didn’t happen.
To answer your questions.
I knew of a person making ~140 as GSR8, most don't though. Probably like 90-110.
10k signing bonus might be possible. I know people that have gotten it, but I don't know how.
Negotiation will not be possible unless you have a similar offer in hand from a competitor.
"Interesting their skills are never in question."
If we're talking about 20 or 30 somethings, it has to be good! Just ask HR and the hiring managers.
@eko+1cLrlrHs Just like after the SRD which cried that we had too much headcount. So we shoved a bunch of our expertise out the door and brought in inexperienced new hires. Oh yeah, because supposedly we are reimaginging our business and nobody over the age of 32 have any skills. So SRD part2 oh I mean VSSP is same game different day. They will literally be walking people in the front door while kicking people out the back because they make too much and are too old in their opinion. And then we will once again see a flood of promotions. Wash. Rinse. Repeat. The only game our clueless manage knows. Interesting their skills are never in question.
Ford is hiring? Does this meet our SRD/VSSP requirements? The new exec is 10M+ a year how can we afford especially since he will hop to another company in 2 years.
Interviewed?!? Here??? What kind of dr-gs are you smoking son?
In my experience, you need to reject the first offer. The signing bonus should then come along with the increased second offer. As long as your experience is relevant to your new position, you will be considered an experienced professional and should also be offered enhanced vacation benefits.
Do you have a graduate degree? If so, with 16 years experience you should be hiring in at LL6 or above. Are you sure this isn’t an agency position? Also, with no graduate degree and 16 years experience you should be hiring in at a GR8.
The GSR level they hire you at will be dependent purely on the salary they want to offer you. Whatever GSR level that salary will be closest to midpoint in is the level you will be.
First, you need to read through all the posts on this board and think long and hard before accepting an offer. I am sure your ego has been well fluffed by HR as that is a game they have been playing for many years. The comments on this board are the absolute truth. Like the previous posted noted. RUN! You are not a special case that it will not apply. No money is worth the he-l you are preparing to sign up for. Trust us.
Unless you have been specifically told the position is a GSR level, it is unlikely you will hire in at that level. Reason being is HR prefers to bring people in at the lower levels in order for them to have additional levels to rise. GSR8 is the top non mgt grade so you really have no where to go. Most initial management roles now go to mgt program candidates, or local favorites. Being a direct hire is not ideal as the koolaid line for promotion is deep at Ford. You will learn this soon after starting and will likely be a point of frustration until you leave within 5 years as many are now doing.
Run!
