Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Another executive you've never heard of is leaving

Looks like executive you've never heard of Matt Stepanski will be leaving. But it's fine, because executive you've never heard of John Sabino will be in charge of a bunch of other executives you've never heard of. Good job, Sir! Strong leadership!

Sabino was fine. Those under him however, not so much. Much like Matt was down to earth and engaging but those under him not so much.

John Sabino is also quite well known depending on which part of the business you are in. The few times I met him I found him down to earth, engaging and credible

As a former PS person fully agreed. I would be told that "it was in my best interest" to stay billable during Kick offs because the business needed revenue. We would get constant emails stating that during kick off we should wake up at 5am to get two or three billable hours a day in.

Always felt like we were just padding the executives pockets while we got sh-t in return. I won numerous awards with bonuses because I "overachieved" can only imagine what that meant for the execs at the time.

+1 on getting rid of Dimwit. I do not know of a single decision with his name tied to it that had any sort of positive impact on the company...not one. But I can point to a few decisions that did the opposite.

I’d be worried, there are always “best cost” alternatives in the PSO universe.

PSO feels very top heavy to me, and I say that as someone in PS. Sometimes I feel like I am subsidising the high wages the layers of middle management are on. Matt was one of the good ones, but there is a lot of chaff between him and the people customers pay for.

Not sure what will happen but I’m not personally too worried as have a big backlog of work that customers have already paid for. Time will tell I guess.

"I think the bigger question is why he didn't wait just one more single week to get the H1 bonus..."

If his BU is sold off he may not get a severance...

Matt was very well known across the business, been at VMW a long time, and was an excellent and well respected leader and wish him well in his new venture. The resentment and ignorance shows more about the OP than anything else.

Well, that definitely requires skills and ambition. Well done!

And $$ - which he obviously has.

Shame he is gone .... Sumit would be my first choice of someone leaving ...

To be honest, Matt was one of the good ones. He certainly isn't a nobody, especially not in PS ... He knew what he was doing ... Person I'd like to see go is Percy .... bloody can't stand his face.

"Or, maybe he has marketable skills and can find another job, so he chose to leave now."

His email said he is starting a new business. Does not seem like that option is going away anytime over the next couple of months.

I think the general consensus here, and based on what has happened in previous acquisitions, is that PSO will be sold off. Whomever its sold to (HCL probably) will not want a SVP so they wouldn't offer him a job and he won't be eligible for BC severance meaning no reason to hang around.

I think the bigger question is why he didn't wait just one more single week to get the H1 bonus...

But wait, won't he miss out on the upcoming severance windfall everyone is awaiting?

Or, maybe he has marketable skills and can find another job, so he chose to leave now.

Well done!

I thought SVP severance was supposed to be like a years salary or something??? What does he know that everyone else does not...

Being a VP minion in the Raghu 'leadership' team must be incredibly boring now.

Just because you’ve never heard of Stepanski doesn’t mean no one else has, either. I for sure have, and I’m not in PS.
