@zg yes, I do wonder when US companies would wake up. My family and friends knew this about them for the longest time. They have very low moral standards. The culture values how you can take down, scam.

The good engineers mostly left in the first buyout. We were never able to properly replace them. We got English butchering help instead. You know, the contractors that never get hurt by the layoffs, but somehow magically get a position in the company a year later? There are a few more really good ones, but they will be gone on the next buyout, or will age out soon. I'll say goodbye on the next one. I should have listened on the first one. I spent my entire adulthood helping build this, and they left me shameful for it. I should have paid attention to my kids more, when I had the time. If you are now unemployed, but young. Don't think of yourself as unlucky. You have the most precious thing there is. Time. Have a dozen kids. Smile, and laugh with them. They will be the only ones that remember you.
@OP You don't need an engineering degree... the tech world is littered with people that created high tech things we use every day and they did it without an engineering degree.
@ek SO WHAT? What does skin colour have to do with anything? What is inside a person's noggin is all that should be considered FULL STOP and their performance in the job position, NOTHING else should be considered.

The Network and tech side once was flooded with tech minded folk, now it’s flooded with the management yes men without inspiration flowing.
Can’t blame them, Verizon was the rudderless Titanic for years, it’s been waiting for someone to either figure it out or sink it.
