Thread regarding Sungard Availability Services layoffs

I made the right decision

I left 8 weeks ago but in all honesty, it feels like I've been gone for 8 months at least. I was on the fence for a long time - I'd lie if I said it was the worst place to work. Still, there were enough downsides (management through fear and bullying being on the top of my list) to make me want to leave. Turns out I made the right choice. I have better pay, better benefits, and most importantly, a much better manager. I thought I should share this in case more people can't decide if they want to stay or leave. There are better options.

The suspense is ki----g me. I strongly suspect this will be another of those weeks. Just waiting for the reports. On the other hand, unless the people who get laid off read and post here, it may take a day or two. Often people who work directly with someone on the regular have no idea they were let go until they reach out to them to check on something.

(To the tune of the Beatle’s “Yellow Submarine”) We all live in a “fudge brown” submarine, a fudge brown submarine, a fudge brown submarine.

@pdcd

They've just convinced each other the ship is now a submarine...whoever gets to the bottom first wins!

@pckl+1cR4VIt0 turning what around .... You are a fool to think this is a successful business and MR,AD,SH are leaders that can right the sinking ship.

If anything is happening this month, this just might be the week. Getting pretty lean though. I don't think a slowdown in layoffs equates to having turned anything around. I don't think there's any chance of ever turning it around from here unless they release some groundbreaking product in the 11th hour. I just don't feel like they have that sort of innovation in them these days.

We can't run much leaner but here's hoping. Although keep popping the pills as each time we think that cull was the last we get an unwelcome surprise!

No layoffs in a while. Looks like the leadership is turning it around. Nice job

SH was the reason I moved on.

I'm guessing we're less than two weeks out now, unless they wait and combine the remaining 2021 reductions into one event, a bit closer to the holidays. Things are so slim in some areas that the moves need to be very surgical ones. Have to leave at least 1-2 on each team that can keep the lights on.

@ejic+1cR4VIt0 - Couldn't agree more, if you speak to most of the leavers, the main thing that delayed their departure, were the great people they left behind (well some people hastened departures mention no names, SH, AD, KR)

It's tough to leave when you're on a great team. The culture built in some sales teams really made it fun but you know when it's time to leave. People say "the grass is greener on the other side". Outside of Sungard, it is and isn't; it depends on how green you want to make it.

Happy end of quarter to everyone.

I left in 2011 also...

Is Secure2Disk still a product? I remember that massive product launch and training.

I left in 2011. Place was already rolling downhill. AS and the private equity guys are what ran this place into the ground. No investment early on when a turn-around actually had potential. Long live eVault!

I waited until I was laid off…, but was honestly the best thing that could happen!!! The environment there is just not normal. So unhealthy.
