Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Advice 4 new graduates

After 4 excruciating years of studying, I'm excited to join Dell. You may ask why I'm posting here and not on LinkedIn....well, LinkedIn is full of a--lickers and phoneys pretending to like their job. It's filled with people with low self esteem who are happy to employ a dog on the street because they think the dog would provide them with strategic and social medial value.

What are the tips for new grades joining Dell in this climate? Give it to me straight. IDGAF how brash it sounds. I want to know I spent $50,000 on an engineering degree only to be employed by a second/third rate employer who is looking for cheap labour. I'm offered a salary of $76,000 which I think puts me in the top bracket of highest earning grads.

What are things that I need to watchout for?

@kb yeah, that's not going to happen with your attitude. Dell is waking up to the fake resumes from your country, and the lack of technical skills that are revealed ater hiring.

Be prepared for constant change (accounts, pay, teams). It will be hard to build a true pipeline as they are always shuffling account sets. Almost just a turn and burn mentality they want you to have. Stay strong, grind!

Welcome to Dell, get as much experience and knowledge as you can, don't ever feel secure with this company, use it for all it's worth and be prepared to go elsewhere when the opportunity arrives. In the long run, Dell will not be loyal to you, no need for you to be loyal to them. Join the 401K and take it with you when you leave

My advice is to run, not walk to the nearest non dell employer and submit your resume. Dell would need significant improvement to even be considered as a lower tier 3rd rate company.

4 years of studying to come to DELL are you kidding me? Also you are one of the ones that took a job from someone with way more experience and tenor so they could pay you half of what I made. I was replaced by some sn-t nosed 22 old girl. So tell again how should you navigate Dell leave.

Absolutely DO NOT speak up! See first what happens to those in your team who speak up. If management likes it, do it, if not, keep it to yourself .

My management say they like it but they actually don’t. Those who had spoken up before got booted out first. It has happened to three people in my team within three years already.

Write emails and Teams messages in full sentences, you’re not texting your buddies about the weekend plans, you’re conveying business or technical information.
If you use and abbreviation or acronym (learn the difference) make sure everyone knows what you mean.

The biggest communication mistake people make is to assume the same abbreviation means the same thing to everyone in the company… it does not.

My advice is to listen! There are people with two years in and people with 25 years in, you can learn from all of them.
Ask questions. And if you have an idea or question speak up. You may be inexperienced but you are also a fresh set of eyes on a problem, you might have the answer.

You will hear some discouraging answers to questions all through your career - the worst is “Because we’ve always done it that way.”

One more bit of advice - next year, when the new kids show up… give them a hand we were all rookies once.

This reads as a troll post to me. Did you read any of the posts before you made a comment. If you were truly interested you wouldn't ask us to tell you how it is. You'd read our previous posts to tellyou how it is. I dont like repeating myself and again I think this post is just to troll us. Glass door would be better for this type of question i think

Be mindful of the senior people in your team because they are being replaced by you. A lot of ignoring, sabotage and backstabbing will come your way. They will pretend to train you but they will give you the bare minimum to tick Managers boxes and they will throw you in the deep end. Stick with other graduates and find the good people. There are some really good seniors as well but those are hard to find.
