Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Moving tech to low cost regions

From an earlier post "Having worked in Q as well as a Faang, Q's technical challenges often surpass that of faang. Low level constraints in memory, efficient message passing, cache, security etc that one needs to think through and gain expertise over time versus scaling techniques in faang one can be an expert in 6 months (why do you thing average developer age in faangs with the exception on apple is so low?) .
There is a cost in moving development to 'low cost' areas. While some enggs are good, the vast majority are average leading to higher development and product maturity time."

Move jobs to UK which is low cost as compared to US , China ,Korea , Ireland , Germany…..and at par with high levels in India .
Quality and price is best value.
Not sure why management and HR don’t see this . This is best investment for them.
I am senior guy in Cambridge and my counterparts in USA takes 3 times …yes that’s the fact and my salary is same as Engineer in USA and at par with that in India at same level , we are 30% cheaper than Korea , Germany and France.
20% cheaper than China , Ireland and Canada .
Why Q management don’t see this ???? Why ???

"Not only is R&D not going overseas but fabs are being created in the US for national security reasons"

Yes, that is what you will be telling yourself after they lay you off upon a completion of training for the "help" they've given you from BDC. And again, you can repeat it to yourself, when, after months of unemployment, you will be re-hired by indian body shop to do the same job for 20% of your original salary and no benefits.

The chip act passed by congress is being fabs to the US. You really should read the news every once in awhile. Not only is R&D not going overseas but fabs are being created in the US for national security reasons. Nothing that I am saying is a secret and it is sad that people post untrue stories on him.

@xtl Q is fabless. So is Apple. But Apple sw dev remains in US. But Q's sw dev being moved overseas. In a check box driven culture, there are a lot of hidden costs especially with complicated embedded dev.

"I don’t see Qualcomm outsourcing R&D.., nor has Qualcomm ever outsourced R&D"

If you work for Q in US, just open your eyes and look around, you'll see.
If you do not work for Q, it is expected, as such news don't help to keep the stock price high.

Qualcomm is a fabless company - Qualcomm already sends all production to a cheaper workforce overseas. R&D is completed in Cali…. I don’t see Qualcomm outsourcing R&D.., nor has Qualcomm ever outsourced R&D…. So I do t understand your post
