I see that, at least in Europe, many talented young folks are leaving Cisco to join competition or more innovative companies in the IT sector. As there is in almost all european countries an old leadership guard who does not make space for the new generation, there is no real career development possibilities for ambitious people. It is embarrassing to see how for e.g. a public sector leader changes the role with channel leader, services sales leader, etc etc but always the same people how are for many many years already in local leadership.

Ex Cisco / Webex employees will build ai product - and get acqui hired by Cisco ..
Where is there to go? Everywhere else is dog scraps.
@ef What makes matters worse is that the hubris and arrogance of those at Cisco is set so deep that they are not open to new ideas or suggestions, no matter what they say about openness. Expressing opinion marks you out as a trouble maker and not a "team player". I know a bunch of great engineers and managers laid off for daring to suggest an alternate and better way of doing things. Empty vessels make most noise at Cisco - just look at the EMEA technical VP, clueless careerist who fires anyone who dares suggest the company line might need to be tweaked.
“because they pay for performance” 😂
How does that rank against "we are a software company?"
CSAP became a joke
GVS is stupid no innovation just micromanaging and spreadsheets
I mean, literally majority of people work here for 15 years plus with no experience from other companies, joined after uni and then retire.
No fresh blood, no new ideas, just the same, old school dudes selling boxes in the same way as 30 years ago.
Then you wonder why young or talented people leave...
Cisco even says they don’t do COLAs “because they pay for performance” 😂
You guys are getting COLAs?
Leadership does not care. Once you realize that Chuck and the cronies don’t give a squirt about anything other than their next bonus, all their decisions make sense.
Cisco has "young talent"? Where are they hiding? Are you defining "young" as 35-45?
There are very few "careers" in tech now and I'm not just talking about Cisco.
You have a JOB. There is no progression. There is only a COLA now and then. You come into a role, work it for a while, then you leave. Your only opportunity for improvement is to move to another company...and who is making that leap these days?
The bit that people don't say to each other but we all silently acknowledge....we know our roles have no chance for advancement, we know our pay scales will only see COLA....but no one is willing to jump ship because we tend to be old and our employer has a poor reputation. WE'RE STUCK.
oh yes, Germany and Switzerland are good examples of what you described above.
It’s a Cisco- worldwide issue. The ONLY people being laid off are ICs, certification push is also for ICs, performance improvements are also for ICs,
while managers, directors, VPs slack their way…..
At executive level, nobody cares about having multiple directors/VPs reporting to
Each other. They are too comfortable not needing to lift a finger, why would they ever leave a comfortable job.
We all know nobody directors/ managers are ever on a chopping block.
Cisco is always going to lose young talent and innovation since deadwood isn’t going anywhere.
I didn’t realize there were innovative European companies.
