@1ag Agreed with the ERSO bloat and bad hiring and restructures. Who needs VP, Sr Director, Director, Sr Mgr, Mgr and the list goes on.
It is so tiring to deal with the people with out the proper education or at least working knowledge background. I'm OK with people changing careers but they should have hands-on experience for at least three years and obtain the top certifications.
What really gets me is how VP Julie Durham and VP Allison Miller accepted leader of the year awards. They are not the people who are doing the work, they are people leaders. At least thank those who are the real engineers and maintainers of technology.
Dealing with offshore India is horrid. They drag their feet and they provide wrong information even when presented with the standards we have to follow. They also have issues working with the brown people of America.
Esro is so bloated. Two years back, may be 1000 people and now over 3000 doing paper pushing. Hiring sr dir and vps without single security qualification
@rw There are still security architects and of course Jason Jones VP, Enterprise Security Architecture. Sure his core strength is network, however, that knowledge supports zero-trust and defeating lateral exploitation.
So if cyber is so important why is Optum failing so badly? I do believe our new leader and CISO will serve us well.. but there is significant focus that is needed..
hopefully the new org will be announced and cuts have stopped and investment is needed!
So no more RIFs in ESRO as far as I’m aware… bar a few sr directors that are redundant from the departing people.
@qj they got rid of the architects, they just have paper pushers now and wannabe engineers!
@qj non even the processes it’s the risks accepted by the executive team!
@pm Less breaches might happen with less politics, have the architects look at the processes because the GRC leaders and enough of their teams don't understand that poor processes will introduce vulnerabilities.
@pn Agreed regarding McKnight and Booker. Booker's failing was his inability to not promote his direct hires that weren't that great. He knew good talent but also had a habit of bringing in friends who then brought in their friends who were all unqualified. He also would find highly skilled people and have them report to the less skilled as he was into . Glad the following people are gone: Steve Swansbrough, Michael Levin, Steve Zaudtke, Jairo Orea, Gretchen Block, Mike Rogers, Aimee Cardwell and a few more.
Booker did try to save the right peoples job and would when he could.
There is an odd promotion thing where those in MN will get the promotions over those in other states who have better skills.
@cd which old CISO there has been so many recently. For sure there was Booker, Aimee , cio of change, McKnight.. Booker and McKnight are solid, everything in between were useless and unqualified who brought in useless and unqualified leaders.
@ne why? I think they need good leaders. It’s obvious those that were cut in ESRO were pretty toxic with the exception of Tim. What I want to know is what are they going to do differently to stop data breaches????

@dm Not weird reporting at all. It is weird and irresponsible to have two non-technical VPs. Heather Cianfrocco is a executive vice president of governance, compliance and security the other (Brian Troen) is a Vice President, IT Security - Information Risk Governance. They have the same responsibilities yet none of the education, certifications or degrees to make them successful.
Waiting to see if Heather was moved to that position as a push out the door. Brian is worse than Gretchen. Guess they are people managers for now.
Anyone else think it’s weird that CISO currently reports to the Optum CFO? Or is that just a temporary thing while we kick the former Optum CEO all the way out the door?
R u saying leaders under old Ciso to be toxic as well? Heard infos regarding the teams under him but how far down does it go with the toxic.
@aj No speculation when there is a job possting.
I doubt Tim McKnight is resigning.. and the other two CISO positions Optum, is filled, UHC is open when Gretchen left. So more speculation I see. There will be communication coming out Monday but not for new CISO of uhg …
Maybe in this round they cut bait with some leaders who were toxic .. the department is well funded so maybe they need to make the IT and business teams accountable?
