Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Ireland Monday 22/01/2024

So the countdown begins, it's currently 12:10am and only 8 hours 20mins until we find out what's going on.

To people in GSS what's your end plan? I'm in the company just shy of 5 years and I'm out the gap.

To anyone in all other sectors what's your plan? Genuinely interested here to see what people will do

How many are leaving cork?

Sumit didn't make any particular effort for GS and wasn't fond of Cork. During his visit, his facial expression clearly showed his disgust at the large crowds in Cork. I'm certain he was solely focused on the Center's expenses and how to minimize them.

Anyone got an educated guess re Cork site going fw? It's all so uncertain....

Have you been to the proofpoint event that took place yesterday ??

Sumit Dhawan seems to be popular with the worforce since taking over.

PE mentality and an RTO mandate.....

Sound familiar VMware?

Those who are undecided, what’s the primary thing holding you back?

Is there something you get at Broadcom that you can’t get at your next job?

If you’ve been at VMware awhile, have you experienced much career growth?

Likewise, to you too :cheersiconwithbeers:

I couldn't, but I heard there were a lot of VMware people there yesterday. Wish them the best too

There is a lot of bs people are posting here. The salary changes are per country or per section and not general. In Ireland for those staying most have got increased bonus outside of RSU which can equate to about 4-20 k per year on their depending on their lvl in their section. Most of the job cuts are duplicates like finance, managers, HR, recruitment etc, Some teams wont be touched. Other offices may close like Egypt. Also there are salary cuts in India and a demand to return to office. They can salary cut - it is just an offer- you can decline it and accept severance or take the new role. if the stock doubles in 4 years (1RSU =$1200 today) average employed could have 100 k in stock alone which is tempting but if halved and then after cap gains taxes could be 18k but redundancy for long term employees 8+ years can range from 70k upwards. Increased work load may be on the way however and leaving later means no severance - into the unknown .. Big decisions ahead...

Yea, perseverance or severance now. Stop by the office before you leave, we can even spend the evening at the pub nearby reminiscing the old days.

BC kept newbs and slashed management.

Leadership slashed> expected > (nice package) could probably survive a number of years, but highly employable

For those with welcome emails who accept "Welcome to The Thunderdome"

Today, I turned down the job offer and couldn't be more happier. Numerous opportunities await, and the responsibility lies solely with oneself if the past two years weren't utilized for preparation. It's a tremendous relief to know that the demanding job is finally concluding. I remained in the business, eagerly awaiting this moment. If you're only in it for the money, I pity you. Have faith in yourself and don't allow anyone to undermine you. Having worked at GS for an extended period, I've encountered numerous exceptional individuals with incredible skills. Don't fall into the misconception that alternative employment options don't exist. If you stay true to yourself, anything is achievable!

Is turning down the offer and getting a payout done by just clicking the decline to sign button or is there something else to it?

On the U.S. we don't know much about WFH either. Hoc Tan says RTO, walk on water, or GTFO. Corp communication says if your location in Workday says remote, then work remote for now... but more communications are coming. BU leaders say its not that big of a deal, we'll try to work with you. Rumor mill says your team needs to have 70% attendance (calculated by the number of people on the team and the number of working days vs number of people badging into the office on working days) regardless of remote classification...

Good luck to you.

Hock might trick and fACK us by forcing to leave in few months. I mean not many would change the city just to stay employed. But also the question is how many VMware remote workers in this situation there are in Ireland.

I'm a newbie in the company. Got an offer this morning - with the same pay but higher bonus %, also was given RSUs. WFH is great, but don't know what to expect in a few months time in this regard.

@ttv+1qHZSwvG

Yes they can. That’s the point. New contract with new benefits.
If you don’t agree, you are made redundant.

How many RSUs were offered for P5/P6?

by

Post ID: @axs+1qHZSwvG

Literally the same BS they did in the Americas, a vague wfh message to get you to stay then as soon as you do they will ask you to come into the office and avoid giving you severance because now you voluntarily quit... DONT FALL FOR IT!!

All M5/P6 got a 20% base pay cut. Confirmed.

I’m on my way out I’m nearly certain about my decision. Thinking long term too, I see customers leaving in 2-3 years when they have come up with alternative solutions. Right now nothing beats vmware for on prem, but who knows what the future holds.

GSS will cater to a very select group of big accounts soon and I can see more layoffs coming if I choose to stay.

I’m hearing many here in GSS and Ireland considering severance, anyone with decent experience should consider it. The severance package is good, BC will not give this choice to those that choose to go later for sure. I’m of the opinion that is win win for Broadcom too because they are all about cost cutting and what’s better than letting employees go voluntarily.

They can't change your base salary, calling bull** on that

Base salary slashed? What level as it's not happening people I've talked to. The base salary remaining the same for us.

by

Post ID: @jvh+1qHZSwvG

Annual base salary slashed, bonus & RSUs to "compensate"...risky offer, no guarantee for nothing but the base salary which is now reduced significantly. (not to mentioned that pension/life insurance etc. is now automatically reduced as it is tied to base salary)

Exercise caution with BC as their communication can be inconsistent. The WFH option may not last long, as Cork Management requests regular in-office attendance. This requirement might be extended for All Hands meetings and other events. If you enjoy your job, staying with them should not be a problem. Anticipate increased workload and be prepared for cross-training requests. The decision is yours, but refrain from complaining if asked to cover NASA shifts or other unexpected responsibilities.

So no pay increase
Might have to work from office (depending on what BC thinks each day)
Working Saturday or Sunday and maybe a 6th day
RSUs that we might or might not get "Intends to recommend to the compensation committee"
and a f**ked up site that wouldn't allow me to read it correctly without messing with HTML to save it.

F*ck you Hock, you are offically a C You Next Tuesday.

Where can I see 'flexible' on Workday? Everybody I can see is either remote or based in the office.

Can I also ask, does 1 RSU = 1 stock so like 1211 dollars as of today...?

I'm out.
In a BU which is going to a PE, and not happy with the possibility of being made redundant (with less severance) if the buyout happens (PE firms remind me of vulture funds - if you're live Ireland you'll know what a vulture fund is)
Not going through this cr-p again.

The contract clearly states that flexible/remote work policy is changeable and non contractual…..

I think that’s pretty much helped me to make my decision.
