Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

It’s easy to say “just collect the paycheck”

That might work for a short while, but over time it becomes completely mind-numbing and demotivating. It starts to feel like taking pride in your work is somehow shameful. Since we spend basically half our lives at work, is it really too much to ask that it actually means something?

It feels like the whole enterprise is designed to make you dislike your job and prevent you from ever progressing or accomplishing anything of substance. And I mean real substance, not a promotion or a raise. It seems like corporate leadership doesn’t actually want people to perform well, just to stay within narrow boxes defined by shallow metrics. Limited thinking, stuck in numbers and charts.

@hf Employment itself is a transaction. You sell a set of skills in the job market, and an employer pays a fee (your salary) to access those skills under specified conditions for the benefit of their business.

Employment was, is, and always will be transactional by nature (sorry boomers).

Employment in the Energy Sector is a "transactional" relationship in the 21st century. There is no employment at ExxonMobil for 30+ years going forward.

@OP good for you being a slacker. Don’t start crying when you get no raises

The office is pretty empty today, but I will still be here to at least 5pm, hard work gets recognized, you should try it

@ee
You just described 50% of the posts on this site. Completely fake. Probably from some scam farm in Cambodia or Nigeria.

Am I the only one that noticed that the OP contained zero specific Exxon content? It’s a bogus post to boost website traffic as we all leave for vacation. Don’t respond to these cr-p posts.

It's a catch 22. You don't get a raise or not very much of one (1%). They won't increase your CL. I'd consider leaving if I didn't lose all of my RSUs. It's a trap - golden handcuffs. Unless you are poor performer, there is no excuse for not getting at least a cost-of-living raise / match. I still want my savings plan matching back. While we're at it, how about my Amex points? So much for meritocracy.

XOM is doomed. It has been a cr-p stock since Lee Raymond retired. The psychopathic goons running it now are not intelligent enough to know better. Investing in businesses they cannot possibly succeed in.

Pitiful times. I feel sorry for the younger folks that are trapped in that hellish work culture, too fearful to leave.

the parasites on the top are just cheapening the companies
they are not intelligent enough to create something of worth
they are just after money and power
they cannot create or improve a civilization

Stop whining and leave. It’s simple. If you don’t like your job leave. It’s not rocket science
