I'd be settled somewhere new by now, instead of sitting here praying my number doesn't get called. I don't even recognize this place anymore, and I know it's just going to get worse.

Team Laid off from 2023. Neither my team and many others are still unemployed. Atleast you get a paycheck.
To the person who said they may have settled into something new and wish they were laid off. You’d be laid off with nothing new. Job market is terrible.

@OP I understand the sentiment, but as someone who was laid off, I say be careful what you wish for. I have (former) colleagues who were laid off in August 2024 who still don't have jobs. My search has been difficult because employers are asking for more experience, etc at each level. For example, Manager jobs now read like Director's positions, etc. And they pay is even more off. While still employed, make sure you're resume is updated, you're researching companies and you're looking at various job listings.
Many people laid off last year still don't have equivalent work unfortunately. And agree it's going to only get worse
@OP Do you need to be laid off in order to look for a new job? Seems like starting your job hunt a year ago would probably have yielded a new job by now (although maybe debatable depending on who you talk to) without the uncertainty of poorly compensated unemployment time. I think many of us are in the same boat as you mentally, but I guess I’m just not understanding why you aren’t being more proactive in trying to leave?
